2YO Recite in Group 1 Glory
2 April 2013
Speedy two-year-old filly Recite (Darci Brahma) took her unbeaten record to four on Saturday when winning the $225,000 Group 1 The Oaks Stud Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Awapuni.
The John Bary trained daughter of Darci Brahma, from NZ’s 2006 Champion 2YO Filly Chant, was all the rage heading into the race being backed into a hot $1.60 after going unbeaten in all three of her starts, her last being the Group 2 Matamata Breeders’ Stakes where she beat tough filly Bounding (Lonhro).
Recite is the third Group 1 winner for Darci Brahma |
Ridden by Mark Du Plessis who has partnered the filly in all four of her starts, Recite was impressive on Saturday, racing mid-field before rounding the field on the turn and powering away in the straight to a 1.5 length win.
Karaka graduates filled the first two placings with the Jason Price trained Al Strada(Perfectly Ready) finishing second and Constellation (Fully Fledged) third.
“She was very impressive on Saturday and she added another string to her bow having raced back in the field,” commented John Bary on his star filly.
“She will now go to the paddock and we are looking to take her to the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas in the spring. She has proven that she has the ability and we are only too happy to give her a shot at a Group 1 race in Melbourne.
“We are not entirely sure how we will get her there but she will likely have two races in New Zealand before heading over for the Guineas. I think the Caulfield track will suit her and it would be great to see her get an Australian Group 1 win for The Oaks and her sire Darci Brahma.”
Recite was bred and is raced by The Oaks Stud and she is the third Group 1 winner for her sire Darci Brahma who stands at The Oaks. Artistic became Darci Brahma’s first Group 1 winner last season when winning the Group 1 NZ Oaks, with Nashville his second when the four-year-old won the Group 1 Haunui Farm WFA Classic earlier this season.
Darci Brahma’s dam Grand Echezeaux (Zabeel) had a highly successful meeting at Awapuni as she also produced his three-quarter brother Burgundy (Redoute’s Choice) who won the Listed Fairdale/Goodwood Studs Flying Handicap.
Recite was offered by The Oaks Stud but failed to find a buyer at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2012 Karaka Premier Sale.
