9 March 2015

Claiming her first stakes success was the Savabeel mare Adorabeel (NZ) (Savabeel) in the Group 3 A$150,000 Aspiration Quality (1600m) at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday.

Trained by Joseph Pride, Adorabeel has won six of her 25 starts and placed in a further eight races. She began her racing career as a three-year-old, now a five-year-old, and has raced up to a mile with this her first try at stakes level.

"She has just been a slow maturing mare," comments Pride. "I have only inherited her recently but I have been more than happy with her progress. She is really starting to mature and turn into a good class mare.

"I would like to head towards the Epona in a couple of weeks' time at Rosehill. It is a 1900m race which will be ideal to get her up over a little bit further."

Ridden by Sam Clipperton, Adorabeel jumped from barrier 4 to settle behind the leaders in the early stages. In fourth position, she tracked Lorna May (Redoute’s Choice) who sat in third position one off the rail.

After dropping back to mid-field before turning for home, Adorabeel came out wide on the corner and raced forward to seek the lead. With 300m to go, Adorabeel hit the front but was under pressure as Entertains (Street Cry) charged at her on the inside.

Adorabeel held on for victory by just a head over Entertains who took second place and Kiwi-bred Intimate Moment (NZ) (Dubawi) finished in third.

This win has increased the five-year-old mare’s earnings to A$255,160 for owners of the Proven Thoroughbreds Syndicate, AN McMaster, Mrs EA McMaster, AW Mountier, GE Uys, GM Lester, Mystery Downs Syndicate and Redbank North P/L Syndicate.

Steve Brem purchased Adorabeel for $70,000 at the 2011 Karaka Select Sale from Windsor Park Stud.

Adorabeel is the 11th stakes winner this season for leading sire Savabeel, whose progeny also includes this season’s Group 1 winners Lucia Valentina (NZ), Soriano (NZ) and Costume (NZ), all Karaka graduates.

Bred by Emblem Ltd, Adorabeel is out of Plaza Doree (Saumarez) who is a full-sister to Crillon (Saumarez), winner of the Listed Saint-Cloud Prix Denisy. Plaza Doree also has a half-sister, multiple stakes winner Mykonos (Gay Mecene) in Europe. Adorabeel is a full-sister to Miss Lincoln (Savabeel), winner of two races at 1600m in New Zealand.
