Attackum's Dam and Siblings to Sell at Karaka
16 July 2009
Attackum claimed black-type status yesterday when running a slashing third in the Listed Ramornie Handicap yesterday at Grafton, a coup for his family members set for next month's New Zealand Bloodstock Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale.
Finishing just a length behind winner Battlefield, Richard and Chris Otto's impressive four-year-old continued a fine family tradition of competing successfully at stakes level.
Attackum (Pins x Macarena, by Kaapstad) has now won four times and placed four times in his eleven race career, with plenty more to add to his family given his meteoric rise through the racing grades.
His dam Macarena will be offered as Lot 7 at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2009 Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale. Offered on account of Twin Pines as agent, Macarena added to the wonderful legacy left by her family by becoming the ninth consecutive mare in her female line to leave a black-type earner.
Her dam-line of stakes producing mares dates back to Vennachar, born in 1922. Her immediate family is perhaps the most impressive however with her dam Cobanna (Star Way) having left four stakes performers including Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap winner Coco Cobanna (Casual Lies) and Macarena herself.
Macarena won three races from the stable of Stephen and Trevor McKee, and placed third in the Listed 1999 BOP RC Tauranga Classic behind Group 1 winner Tall Poppy and supreme producer Palia, the dam of 2009 Group 1 AJC Champagne Stakes winner Onemorenomore (Red Ransom).
At stud Macarena has been equally successful having produced three runners for three winners including Attackum and Doringo (Chief Bearheart), a three-time winner who placed fourth in the Listed Macau Winter Trophy.
Macarena is sold in-foal to emerging young sire Ekraar (Red Ransom) with 15 November her last date of service. Notably, her current three-year-old gelding by Ekraar fetched $80,000 through the 2007 Ready to Run Sale.
Two of Macarena's progeny will also be offered during Karaka's Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale. Her first daughter, Lot 9 Marbella (Postponed), looks an exciting proposition being a young mare from a good family who is sold with her second foal in utero by Hawkeye (Danehill). LSD 14/11/2008.
Twin Pines offer all three lots as agent, with a further 90 lots making up their highly anticipated draft set to sell on 2 August.
