Beau Dazzler (NZ) Shows Class in Phelan Ready
11 December 2023
Saturday’s A$200,000 Listed Eureka Stud Phelan Ready (1000m) at Eagle Farm announced the arrival of an exciting young Karaka graduate who also has a full-brother catalogued for Karaka 2024.
The two-year-old feature was brilliantly won by Beau Dazzler (NZ) (Ardrossan), who was bought for $85,000 from Mapperley Stud’s draft in Book 2 of Karaka 2023. The colt has now had two starts for a win and a placing, earning A$120,150 with the promise of much more to come.
Trained by Tony and Maddysen Sears, Beau Dazzler debuted with a strong-finishing second over 1000 metres at Toowoomba late last month. He went straight up into stakes company for start number two on Saturday, and he delivered in style.
Ridden by Robbie Dolan, Beau Dazzler settled at the rear of the small field before getting out into the clear to make his run in the straight. He was looking around and racing greenly through the final 200 metres, but still built up his momentum and finished over the top of the leaders to win by half a length.
“I don't think you'll find a horse that will try to get himself beaten as much as he did then,” Maddysen Sears said. “He's very green. We never expected him to race this early to be honest. He's surprised us, but I think he's got a bright future when he starts thinking about being a racehorse.”
Landsdowne Park will offer a full-brother to Beau Dazzler as Lot 907 during Book 2 of Karaka 2024.
