Berkley Back With Another Top Draft
22 July 2010
The leading vendor at New Zealand Bloodstock's South Island Sale of 2YOs & Mixed Bloodstock since 2005, Berkley Stud is looking to continue the tradition in 2010 with another quality draft.
This year 22 lots are being prepared by the Christchurch-based operation, with co-owner Edwina Morris commenting on this year's offering "We're looking forward to presenting our draft at the sale on 6 August. This year's draft has some particularly nice individuals with a good variety of sires represented".
Headlining the offering is a brown O'Reilly colt from Miami. At Lot 165,the strong, correctyoungsteris from a running family with four siblings to race having won including two with stakes-placings.

The Stud's resident sire Coats Choice is heavily represented with seven youngsters under the Berkley banner. Himself a half-brother to Pillar of Hercules, his first crop impressed buyers last year with leading trainers John Wheeler, Kevin Myers and bloodstock agent Robt Dawe among the purchasers of his progeny.
Included in the selection by Coats Choice at Lot 115 is a bay gelding from the winning Deputy Governor mare, Escapade. He is a half-brother to the consistent southern galloper Eel Win who is now the winner of 17 starts. Eel Win's victories include the Group 3 White Robe Lodge Handicap, the Listed Timaru Cup plus second in Culminate's Group 1 Otaki Maori WFA Stakes.
Forging himself an impressive record as a sire is fellow Berkley resident, My Halo. With a winners to runners rate of 65% he is proving a lucrative sire of trialled horses. In the draft are two by the son of Southern Halo with Lot 184 reportedly a strong type with a great temperament perfect for the trial market.
Up-and-coming young sire Perfectly Ready will be represented at Lot 50. Built in the powerful mould typical of his sire, the chestnut gelding is a precocious type and is the first foal of the Spinning World mare Veloce Mondo.
By Yamanin Vital, Lot 96 is a three-quarter brother to Group 1 Wellington Cup winner Cluden Creek. His dam, Cluden Cort is by Personal Escort, with Lot 96's cross already successful with promising gallopers Beijing Boy and Anudjawun plus stakes-performer Vital Satin.
Other sires in the draft represented are Bachelor Duke, Captain Rio, Ishiguru, His Royal Highness, Keeninsky, Lucky Unicorn, Postponed, Spartacus and Towkay.
