Big Day At Te Aroha For New Zealand Bloodstock
13 March 2003
The New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance 1400 will be one of the highest profile races on the day and has attracted a quality field of horses to contest the race.
The field is headed by the very exciting galloper Sedecrem (Faltaat x Real Trier) who will be in search of his fourth straight victory on Saturday. The Colin Jillings and Richard Yuill runner has been freshened since his very impressive last start win in the Group 2 Highview Stud Trophy, in which he defeated subsequent Group 1 winner Zvezda, and will no doubt start one of the favourites on race day.
The top weight in the open handicap race is Ego Fast (Supremo x Dunraine), who will be having his first race back since running second to Stoway in the Group 3 Summer Cup at Randwick on Boxing Day. The Martin Craze trained gelding is a model of consistency and will be very competitive as always.
Of the other runners Travellin' Man (Blues Traveller x Peat) and Zahdeal (Haayil x Zabrina) are good chances to finish in the first three. The Group 1 Thorndon Mile place-getter Travellin' Man should appreciate the drop back in class after running at Group 1 level in three of his last four starts, while Zahdeal is coming off a nice second to Let's Planet in the Java Lodge Stakes and will be aided by the services of top jockey Lance O'Sullivan.
Group 2 winner Millennium (Prized x Royal Med) and 2001 New Zealand Derby winner Leica Guv (Deputy Governor x Leica Or Not) will kick off their autumn campaigns in the race and both are likely to go bold races over the 1400 metre trip.
The Donna and Dean Logan trained Jetski (Jetball x Making Waves) also rates as some chance, with the gelding having a good record at the distance and a two month break from racing may be the answer to Jetski recapturing his great spring form.
