Black-type Double for New York Minute (NZ)
21 July 2018
New York Minute (NZ) (Iffraaj) bolstered her resume with a second black-type feature in a commanding front-running performance in Saturday’s $65,000 Listed Powerworx Opunake Cup (1400m) at New Plymouth.
Purchased out of Little Avondale Stud’s 2013 National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale draft for $15,000, Saturday’s win was her eighth from 24 career starts and second at black-type following her last-start win in the $50,000 Listed Woburn Farm Tauranga Classic (1400m).
New York Minute worked hard early to get to the front and she kicked strongly in the straight to beat Sleeping Beauty, who was in receipt of four and a-half kilos, and the winner’s stablemate and fellow Karaka graduate Tomelilla.
Trained by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman for the Kelly family, she has now earned $211,535 in prizemoney.
“She’s hard to catch when she’s rolling along,” Forsman said.
“We’ll probably freshen her and ideally head to the Foxbridge Plate and then the first day at Hastings,” he said, referring to the Group One Tarzino Trophy (1400m).
New York Minute also earned the stable their 20th black type victory of their remarkable domestic season.
