Black-type Treble For Dijon Bleu (NZ)

Burgundy filly Dijon Bleu (NZ), who cost just $26,000 at the 2016 Select Sale at Karaka, won her third stakes race in a row when she took out the $50,000 Listed Partners Life Soliloquy Stakes (1400m) at Ellerslie on Saturday.

The Lisa Latta-trained runner had won the Listed O’Leary’s Fillies’ Stakes (1200m) and the Group 3 Gold Trail Stakes (1200m) in her two previous starts.

On Saturday she overcame early traffic trouble and waywardness in the straight to strike black-type gold again, sprinting to the lead 300 metres from home and holding on gamely to win by a neck.

“It’s great for the syndicate,” said stable representative Andy Rennie, who also shares in the ownership of Dijon Bleu.

“Leith (Innes, jockey) said she didn’t have a lot go her way in the early stages of the race, so for her to pick herself up and win was fantastic. She just keeps stepping up to the plate.

“She ran the 1400 metres out strongly today and has such a potent turn of foot. She was challenged a long way out, but fought them off all the way down the straight.”

Dijon Bleu has now had seven starts for four wins, one placing and $131,450 in prize-money – more than five times her purchase price.
