Breeders' Stakes for Rollout the Carpet

27 February 2012

Promising young filly Rollout the Carpet galloped to an impressive win in the prestigious $100,000 Group 2 Matamata Breeders' Stakes (1200m) on Saturday.

Trained by the father and daughter partnership of Jeff McVean and Emma-Lee Browne the two-year-old earned her first black type convincingly.

Jumping well Rollout the Carpet (Holy Roman Emperor x Out of Egypt) went straight to the front before regular jockey Matt Cameron steadied her to settle fourth. Travelling wide on the turn she quickened to challenge the leader at the 200 metres and drew clear for an easy win.

Fellow Karaka graduates Liberating (Iffraaj x Dina), who finished one-and-a-half lengths back for second, and race favourite Silk Pins (Pins x Silk Ending) who forged home for third gave New Zealand Bloodstock the trifecta.

Owned by New Zealand Bloodstock's International Bloodstock Manager John Cameron and his wife Jackie, Hong Kong-based Matthew & Elizabeth Oram and William Fan and Tung Moon Fai, Rollout the Carpet was offered at the Karaka 2011 Select Sale by Curraghmore Stud.

With only four starts to her name she will now be set for the Group 1 Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Ellerslie on Saturday 10 March.

"We couldn't be more proud of her," commented John Cameron "she's come a long way in a very short space of time and with each race she has stepped up to the mark. It's a great thrill to have won this time-honoured race that has seen so many quality winners in the past.

"Jeff, Emily and David have done a wonderful job with her. She has come through the race really well and all things going well she will be in the Diamond Stakes."
