Bunker Bowls Them In Bayer
29 November 2002
Bunker (Sandtrap x Perfect) outclassed his competition in yesterday's $200,000 Group 1 Bayer Classic (1600m) at the Levin RC meeting at Trentham.
The gallant 3 year old, took the lead in the straight and refused to give it up when Dane Choice (Danewin x Another Choice) & Cheerine Kid (Gaius x Pompeii Bride) made their final dash to the line.
Bunker is another success story for New Zealand Bloodstock's Festival Yearling Sale, where he was purchased by his trainer and part-owner Stephen & Trevor McKee last year. McKee paid $30,000 for the colt and now owns him in partnership with Syd and Ian Taplin of Southland.
New Zealand Bloodstock's Festival Yearling Sale has recently produced Group 1 winners in Victory Smile (Victory Dance x Fluoride) who won the 2002 Metropolitan Handicap, and Hustler (Al Akbar x Flush) who took out the 2002 Coupland's Bakery NZ 2000 Guineas.
New Zealand Bloodstock's 2003 National Yearling Sales Series takes place from the 27 January – 4 February.
