Cambridge Stud Yearling Clips Now Online
24 December 2010
Cambridge Stud - with the largest draft of the Karaka Premier Sale - now has video clips online with 49 yearlings filmed and posted on the NZB website.
In a remarkable feat, Sir Patrick & Lady Justine Hogan's Cambridge Stud has been the leading vendor by aggregate at the Karaka Sales for the last 29 years. In 2010 the stud topped the Premier Sale with its colt by Zabeel from the Danehill mare Diamond Like which fetched $2 million to the bid of James Bester, becoming the highest priced yearling sold in Australasia in 2010.
Cambridge Stud has 51 yearlings nominated for the Premier Sale with 15 yearlings by their champion sire Zabeel. The sire of 40 individual Group 1 winners, Zabeel was the sire of four Group 1 winners last season alone, in addition to standout performers Maluckyday and Precedence.
Standing alongside Zabeel at Cambridge Stud is Keeper, the Group 1 winning son of Danehill. The sire of five Group 1 winners from his 17 stakes winners, he is currently sitting third on the 2010/2011 New Zealand General Sires table. He has 59 yearlings nominated for the 2011 Karaka Sales.
Joining them on the roster is Lucky Unicorn (Redoute's Choice) who has 28 yearlings nominated for the 2011 Karaka Sales. His first crop of yearlings went through the ring in 2010 fetching up to $130,000. And new for 2011, Tavistock (Montjeu), the winner of the Group 1 Mudgway Stakes and Group 1 Waikato Draught Stakes, has just covered his first book of mares at stud.
Littered with blueblood entries, the Cambridge Stud Premier Sale draft includes:
Lot 14, a half-brother by One Cool Cat to triple Group 1 winning racemare Serenade Rose (Stravinsky).
Lot 258, the filly by Zabeel from the Danehill mare Dane Dancer, a three-quarter sister to champion sire Redoute's Choice as well as sires Al Maher and Manhattan Rain.
Lot 275, the filly by Keeper from Diamond Smile (Zabeel), just one of Cambridge Stud's multiple entries from the illustrious Eight Carat family.
Lot 401, the colt by Exceed and Excel from Cambridge Stud's three-time Group 1 winning racemare Lashed (Encosta de Lago).
Lot 442, the colt by Encosta de Lago from the stakes winning mare Miss Power Bird, the same family as Might and Power.
Lot 466, the colt by Red Ransom from Nureyev's Girl, the dam of the Group 1 winner and current leader in New Zealand Bloodstock's Filly of the Year Series, King's Rose.
Cambridge Stud's draft has progeny from a wide variety of stallions including Fastnet Rock, Stratum, O'Reilly, Lucky Unicorn, Danehill Dancer, Tale of the Cat, Commands and more.
