Carnival Sale Catalogues Out Now!

8 February 2008

The final instalment of New Zealand Bloodstock's 2008 National Yearling Sales Series -the Karaka Carnival Yearling Sale -will see 198 young horses offered for sale amidst the excitement of the Auckland Racing Club's 2008 Auckland Cup Carnival.

Catalogues for the 2008 Carnival Sale have gone in the post today, and can also be viewed online.

A new addition to last year's sale calendar, this is just the second time around for the Karaka Carnival Sale. Last year's Sale averaged $25,059 for the 259 yearlings catalogued, with a median of $20,000. The top lot, purchased by prominent New Zealand buyer David Ellis, was Sir Invincible, an Invincible Spirit colt from winning Bellotto mare Muffin McLay bought for $120,000.

Sir Invincible was one of two Carnival Sale graduates to make the final fourteen-horse field for this year's inaugural Karaka Million, the other being Nuke Time (Choisir - Chloella), with a third, Bankside Belle (Volksraad - Chianina),making the ballot.

Also from the 2007 Carnival Sale is the talented but wayward Fully Fledged (Align - Fledged) who thwarted his chances of a start in the big race when running out and over the rail in the Group 2 Ford Wakefield Challenge Stakes at Trentham.

The 2008 Carnival Sale will take place at Karaka on Friday 7 March from 11am. This year's graduates will have more incentive race opportunities than any other yearlings in New Zealand, being able to enterthe one million dollarKaraka Million in 2009, the $200,000 Karaka 3YO Mile in 2010 and the $100,000 Carnival Sale Bonus.

The inaugural $100,000 Carnival Sale Bonus will be raced for on Auckland Racing Club's Derby Day on Saturday 1 March. The 1200m event is open to all two-year-olds with the first Sale graduate past the post claiming the $100,000 bonus.
