Coldplay (NZ) Provides Massive Boost to Karaka Yearling’s Pedigree
10 December 2016
A full-sister to Coldplay (NZ) (Savabeel) will go through the ring at Karaka 2017, and the classy mare has given the yearling’s pedigree a massive boost with two stakes wins since the catalogues went to print.
Already a Group Three winner of the Eulogy Stakes (1600m) last season, Coldplay has gone to another level in this campaign with three wins from three starts. She won the Group 3 Eagle Technology Stakes (1600m) at Ellerslie two weeks ago, and today she carried on her winning way with a terrific performance in the $100,000 Group 2 Cal Isuzu Stakes (1600m) at Te Rapa.
Rider Craig Grylls had the Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained mare handily placed in fourth or fifth position before unleashing her out wide in the home straight. David Greene-trained stablemates Rising Shot (NZ) (Red Giant) and Stolen Dance (NZ) (Alamosa) appeared to have the finish to themselves, but Coldplay overpowered them through the last 150 metres and scored by three-quarters of a length.
Bred by Gary Wallace, who races the mare in partnership with Waikato Stud’s Garry Chittick, Coldplay has had 12 starts for five wins and more than $177,000 in stakes.
“It’s great,” Chittick said. “This is Gary’s horse, I’m just a passenger. I’m very lucky to be involved with a horse like this. It means a lot.”
Waikato Stud will offer the full-sister, who goes through the ring as Lot 170 in the 2017 Premier Sale.
