Competition on Quality Lots in Final Hours of South Island Sale

14 April 2021

Bidding for New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2021 South Island Sale hosted on Gavelhouse Plus is set to close incrementally today, starting with Lot 1 from 7PM (NZT).

Lot 63 (Almanzor x Next)

Several of the 63 quality lots on offer have already met their reserve, highlighted by fierce bidding on Lot 63, an Almanzor filly out of Next, who at the time of writing sits at $42,000 and Lot 56, a War Decree colt out of Lisa Love (NZ) that is also on the market currently at $30,000.

The sale has proven to be an incredible source of star quality for value prices and is an opportune catalogue for buyers to secure their next racetrack performer.

Passed in at the 2014 South Island Sale with a $10,000 reserve, Shadows Cast (NZ) (Per Incanto) collected the fourth black-type win of a high-class career in the $50,000 Listed Bramco Granite & Marble Flying Stakes (1400m) at Awapuni on 3 April. On the same day at Ellerslie, Markus Aurelius (NZ) (Ghibellines) a $13,000 purchase, recorded his fourth consecutive victory with a dominant performance in the $32,500 Race Images 1500.

The South Island Sale features a strong contingent of 30 stallions, including proven and emerging talent in Charm Spirit, Complacent, Iffraaj, Preferment, Proisir, Reliable Man, Sacred Falls, Shamexpress, Tarzino, Tivaci, Vadamos and Zacinto.

The catalogue also features the progeny of an exciting group of new bloodlines. Buyers who missed out at Karaka 2021 have another chance to purchase yearlings by exciting first season sires Almanzor, Derryn, Mongolian Falcon, Satono Aladdin, Time Test and War Decree.

All unbroken yearlings sold on Gavelhouse Plus are eligible to be nominated for the lucrative Karaka Million Series. The Series features two $1 million races – the DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka Million 2YO (1200m) and the Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m), in addition to the $100,000 CollinsonForex Karaka Cup (2200m), which graduates can contest for the duration of their career.
