Crusoe Scores Again
19 March 2007
Crusoe (Volksraad x Caserio), the well-performed four-year-old from the Laurie Laxon stable gained yet another feature win, this time in the inaugural S$125,000 Punter's Way 30th Anniversary Handicap (1400m) at Kranji on Friday night.
This was Crusoe's fifth win in Singapore for Kiwi expat Laxon. It was an all kiwi affair with Andrew Calder doing the job for owner Bob Emery. Crusoe, who was third in the Group 1 Two-Thousand Guineas in New Zealand before transfering to Singapore, has now won over S$460,000 in stake money from his eight wins making the NZ$65,000 purchase price paid by Emery at the 2004 Karaka Select Sale - from the Mapperley Stud draft - look very reasonable.
Laxon is now reportedly considering aiming Crusoe towards the QEII Cup in April.
Crusoe was bred by Nancy and Peter Izett, who have tasted success as the breeders and owners of Dorabella (Postponed x Caserio) who won the Group 1 New Zealand Bloodstock One-Thousand Guineas in November. A Black Minnaloushe yearling colt out of Caserio was purchased by Cambridge bloodstock agent Tony Pike at the recent National Yearling Sales Series at Karaka for NZ$110,000, from the Windsor Park Stud draft.
