Cylinder Beach (NZ) Breaks Eagle Farm Track Record

1 January 2017

Karaka graduate Cylinder Beach (NZ) (Showcasing) delivered a blockbuster performance in Saturday’s Listed Bernborough Handicap (1600m) at Eagle Farm, breaking the track record at the Brisbane track.

The four-year-old stormed home from the back of the field and got up to win by half a length. The time was 1:34.51, beating the previous best by 1.71 seconds.

"I decided not to tax him by sending him to Sydney for the Villiers two weeks ago. Instead we wanted to win three stakes races in Brisbane," Forster said.

"He should have won all three instead of winning the Recognition Stakes and then finishing an unlucky second in the Brisbane Handicap.

"We might bring him back for one run in the Sydney autumn but the winter has always been our target. I think a race like the Doomben Cup is right up his alley.

“He is starting to get up in the ratings and he can now look at the better races.”

Cylinder Beach has now had 13 starts for four wins, five placings and A$430,150 in prize-money. He has now won three black-type events, having previously won the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1630m) and Listed Recognition Stakes (1400m).

Bred by Tim Harrison, Cylinder Beach is one of three winners out of the Rainbow Quest mare Queen’s Colours – a half-sister to the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) winner The Offer (Montjeu).

Cylinder Beach was offered by Te Runga Stud at the 2014 Ready to Run Sale, but didn’t meet his $60,000 reserve. He is now owned by C R Lees, M T Doquile, Dr T M Schramm, P M O'Neill, D J O'Neill, M A Lenarduzzi, D J Mulvenna, D J Cleary, D J Lynch and B J Hastie.
