Danroad (Danehill - Strawberry Girl, by Strawberry Road) |
With the assistance of some recent star performers, Highview Stud's resident stallion continued his ascension of New Zealand's Leading Sires table, now just one spot below Zabeel in eighteenth position, and eighth of the New Zealand-based sires.
His son Down the Road (Danroad - Dixies Girl, by Stark South) has been an impressive contributor, winning the Group 2 ARC Championship Stakes and just bobbed on the line in a tight finish in the $2.2 million Group 1 NZ Derby.
Following on from that impressive performance during the Auckland Cup Week, Danroad's daughter Amazing Sky (Danroad - Quasi Stellar, by Catrail) won by an impressive one and a quarter length yesterday at Ellerslie, the second day of the Carnival. It was the second win for the three-year-old who was a winner and stakes placed as a two-year-old.
Danroad's oldest crop are just three-year-olds, and with just two small crops of 45 and 38 foals he has sired Australian Group 1 winning two-year-old Rockdale (Danroad - Komplete Kaos, by Desert Sun) along with Down the Road, Amazing Sky and nine other winners.
A winner of four races at two, including the Group 3 WRC Wakefield Challenge Stakes (1200m) and placing in the Group 1 Manawatu Sires produce, it is no surprise that Danroad's progeny go early. Of his twelve winners, five won at two, and all bar last start winner Piece of Art (Danroad - Princess Marengo, by Umatilla) won races before Christmas of their three-year-old seasons.
Danroad's statistics support the emergence of a 'new star' with 41% winners to runners at this early stage, and 6.8% Group 1 performers to runners, an achievement that leaves him without a peer at this stage.
Highview's Sale on 29 March will offer ample opportunity for those buyers looking to take advantage of the young sire's 'upward swing' in the market.
Four weanling colts with pin-hook potential, and three fillies with residual value, will be presented for auction at the Hamilton property.
Highlights include:
Lot 1 - Br. Filly - Danroad x Go Norn (Clay Hero): Go Norn was stakes placed and won three races, one at two, but is best known for producing full brothers Life of Reilly (Kreisler) and (Mr) Royston (Kreisler) who won twenty three races between them, including a Group 3 victory and multiple Listed victories.
