Darci Collects Trentham Group 2
21 January 2013
Exciting Darci Brahma filly Recite gave her sire a huge boost ahead of Karaka 2013 which kicks off next week when she won the $85,000 Group 2 Little Avondale Stud Wakefield Challenge Stakes (1200m) at Trentham on Saturday in notable fashion.
Jumping well and finding the lead for jockey Mark Du Plessis, Recite (ex Chant) came across the junction and looked as though she was only battling coming to the two hundred metre mark but when she was seriously asked the question she knuckled down and got away to win by two lengths, in doing so breaking 1.10 for the 1200 metre trip.
Recite is the 7th stakes winner for her sire Darci Brahma |
Trained at Hastings by John Bary for The Oaks Stud, Recite looks to have inherited most of Chant’s ability who was crowned the Champion 2YO filly of her year when she won the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes and was runner up in the Group 1 Diamond Stakes when raced by The Oaks.
Recite is now set to head to Group 2 Matamata Breeders Stakes in the middle of February, a race that Karaka graduates have a great record in recent years with Rollout the Carpet (Holy Roman Emperor), Banchee (Oratorio) and Te Akau Rose (Thorn Park) all winning in the last four years.
Recite was offered at the 2012 Premier Sale by The Oaks Stud who have retained the filly after she failed to meet her reserve and now carries plenty of residual value after Saturday’s win.
Darci Brahma will be represented by 23 yearlings in the 2013 Premier Sale, with the highlights including:
- Lot 300 who is out of the Auckland Cup winning mare Prize Lady(Prized).
- Lot 30 prepared by Pencarrow Stud, a half-brother to Group 1 Telegraph Handicap winner Guiseppina (Johar).
Darci Brahma will also be represented by 21 yearlings in the highly successful Select Sale that has produced 15 Group 1 winners since the 2010/2011 season.
It is also a sale where Darci Brahma pinhooks have performed incredibly well, with his colt from Identity selling for $180,000 at the Ready to Run Sale in November after being picked up for $52,500 at the Karaka Select Sale last year.
Darci Brahma now sits in second on the 2YO Sires Premiership, behind Tale of the Cat who will be represented by Dancer’s Tale and Gobi Ranger in the Karaka Million.
The $1 million Karaka Million (Res.L) will be held at the Karaka Million Twilight Meeting at Ellerslie on the eve of the Karaka Premier Sale this coming Sunday 27 January. Tickets are now available and can be purchased by clicking here.
