Day 2 Of Premier Sale Sees Prices Continue To Rise In Strong Market

Today it was the antipodean buyers who made their presence most felt. Rob McAnulty secured the top lot of the day, Lot 393 Quest For Fame x Chimeara (by Danehill) colt for $750,000 from the draft of Pencarrow Stud. The next two top lots, Lot 304 Zabeel x Waihora's Lass filly for $600,000 and Lot 389 Danehill x Champagne colt for $575,000 are both heading to Australia with DGR Thoroughbred Services and Gai Waterhouse respectively.
Graeme Rogerson is currently the leading buyer with a total of 24 purchases for $2,750,000. Also featuring among the leading buyers so far are Kieran Moore Bloodstock from Australia with 8 lots for $1,335,000 and from New Zealand, David Ellis who has secured 24 lots for $1,320,000, and Paul Moroney Bloodstock with 12 lots purchased for $1,290,000.
Day 2 continued to see a strong presence from northern hemisphere buyers with Adrian Nicoll of BBA Ireland and De Burgh/Farrington amongst the active European buying bench. Hong Kong was also a powerful force throughout the day.
The average for today's offering climbed to $111,000, with the combined day 1 and 2 sale average still a very pleasing $108,842. The clearance rate also firmed further to 82%.
�Whilst we are thrilled to have three of today's lots exceeding the half million mark, we are also very pleased to see a strong interest in our middle market from both home and overseas buyers. Possibly one of the best indicators for us of a good sale is whether there is the demand for that middle part of the market. Today that was definitely so, with a very robust median of $72,500 � up from $67,500 last year. We were delighted that the market not only held up but gained even further from yesterday. We still have a number of exciting yearlings to offer at the final Premier Session tomorrow and all indications are that the sale should conclude on a high note,� said NZ Bloodstock Marketing & PR Manager, Petrea Vela.
