Don't Ya Lovett Takes Opunake Cup

The Allan Sharrock trained, Don't Ya Lovett (Lord Ballina x Sea Huntress) continued his fine winter form, with a comfortable victory in the Listed Waikato Stud Opunake Cup (1400m) at Hawera on Saturday.
The six-year-old son of Lord Ballina was piloted by Opie Bosson, making his run out wide in the better going, to score by a length and three-quarters from Floydeboy (Mellifont x Fleche D'or) and Bulginbaah (Strajo x Lady Tristimus).
The victory was win number 10 from 20 starts for Don't Ya Lovett, who will possibly tackle the Gr.3 Winter Cup at Riccarton next month, a race he won last year. A tilt at the Gr. 2 Liston Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 19 is also being considered.
Don't Ya Lovett was purchased by Sharrock at the 2001 Karaka Festival Sale for NZ$41,000 from the draft of Ardsley Stud. Runner up, Floydeboy was sold at the same sale for $16,000 to Bernie McDonald from the draft of Paramount Lodge.
Meanwhile at Ellerslie in Auckland on Saturday, the Craig Thornton trained Electrostatic (Elnadim x Echostatic) took out the juvenile event in fine style, winning the Bladerunner 2YO (1200m) by 3 lengths from Dan's Best (Black Minnaloushe x Nothing Less), who made up good ground in the straight.
The two-year-old filly broke through for her maiden victory in the hands of Ryan Allwood, enjoying a trail behind the leaders before powering away from her rivals in the straight. A graduate of last year's New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale, Electrostatic is well related, being a half sister to stakes winners, Singalong, Penny Arcade and Coup Ray.
Breckenridge Takes Singapore Feature
On Friday night at Kranji the Laurie Laxon trained Breckenridge (Anziyan x Snowmass) notched up his 6th career victory when successful in the S$125,000 Open Class Sprint (1200m).
The son of Anziyan was one of a trio of winners for rider, Saimee Jumat, who rocketed to the lead in the Jockeys Premiership. , ridden to perfection by Saimee, made it six wins from just 16 starts in Singapore with a solid performance in the $125,000 Open Class 1200m.
Breckenridge initially raced in New Zealand, finishing 4th in both the Listed Great Northern Foal Stakes and the Listed Northland Breeders Stakes at 2.
Breckenridge is proving equally adept on fibresand and turf.
New Zealander, Laurie Laxon has joined John Meagher at the head of the Trainers Premiership in Singapore on 47 wins apiece.
Mr Ubiquitous Leads Winter Challenge Series
The Chris Waller trained Mr Ubiquitous (Tale of the Cat x Zahra) leads the New South Wales Winter Challenge Series following a commanding victory in the sixth heat of the series, the De Bortoli Wines Handicap (1300m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
The son of Tale of the Cat has been rejuvenated by Waller, recording 2 wins and 2 seconds in his past five outings, having previously not won a race since December 2003, when successful in the Gr.3 King's Plate at Ellerslie.
Raced by prominent owner Owen Glenn and Gerard Peterson's GG Syndicate, Mr Ubiquitous was purchased at the 2002 Karaka Premier Yearling Sale for $85,000 by Paul Moroney, from the draft of Karaka Downs.
With Danny Nikolic producing a perfect ride, Mr Ubiquitous was always traveling well, cruising to victory by three-quarters of a length from Real Strike and Fire Song.
The $100,000 Winter Challenge Final (1500m) takes place on August 5 at Rosehill.
