Econsul Blitzes Aussie Rivals
13 October 2004
New Zealand Bloodstock sale graduate, Econsul (Pins x Gypsy Soul) caused a major upset when he cruised to victory against Australia's best three-year-olds in yesterday's Carlton Draught Caulfield Guineas. The Graeme Rogerson trained colt settled mid-field and was shuffled back coming into the turn. Jockey Chris Munce negotiated a series of tight gaps to bring the forty-three dollar shot through the middle of the field and take the lead fifty metres from the line.
The colt was sold by Delahunty Farm for $65,000 in the Select Colts Session of the 2003 National Yearling Sales Series. Rogerson purchased the colt and placed shares with several clients in Sydney.
Rogerson suggested that Econsul's next race will either be the Group 1 Salinger Stakes or the Group 1 Emirates Stakes at Flemington.
Later in the day, New Zealand Bloodstock graduate, Starcraft (Soviet Star x Flying Floozie) finished third in the Group 1 Yalumba Stakes, his first race back in Australia after his three-race New Zealand campaign.
