Exciting Young Sires at NZB’s Ready to Run Sale

Next month’s New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale at Karaka will showcase the first two-year-old crops of 14 exciting freshman sires.
Sires with their eldest Australasian crop in the Sale include Shamexpress, Jakkalberry, Dundeel, Camelot, Albrecht, Dawn Approach, Declaration of War, Epaulette, Eurozone, Ferlax, Shamus Award, Sizzling, The Factor, and Unencumbered.
Shamexpress(O’Reilly x Volkrose, by Volksraad)
Shamexpress was an exceptional sprinter, winning the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap and placing in the VRC Sprint Classic, Lightning Stakes, Coolmore Stud Stakes, and the Schweppes Handicap. On retiring to stud he was the fastest son of his champion sire and, like O’Reilly, beat the older horses over 1200m at Group 1 when only three. Standing at Windsor Park.
12 two-year-olds are in the catalogue by Shamexpress including Lot 89 – a half-brother to the Group 3 winner and Group 2 performer The Centenary(NZ) (Mastercraftsman), and a direct descendant of the great Eight Carat (Pieces of Eight) family.
Jakkalberry(Storming Home x Claba Di San Jore, by Barathea)
A truly international stayer, Jakkalberry was awarded the honour of Champion Older Male Stayer in Great Britain in 2012 and that of Champion Older Male in Italy in 2010 and again in 2011. A multiple Group winner and performer, he won races in Great Britain, America, Italy, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as running third in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup. Standing at Novara Park.
Jakkalberry is the sire of five two-year-olds at the Sale including Lot 132 – out of the four time winner and stakes performer Free Sea (NZ) (Racer’s Edge).
Dundeel(High Chaparral x Stareel, by Zabeel)
Dundeel was an exceptional racehorse winning 10 races, six at Group 1, including the Australian Derby, Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Randwick Guineas, Rosehill Guineas, Spring Champion Stakes and the Underwood Stakes. A champion three-year-old and middle distance horse he was crowned Horse of the Year in NZ in 2013-14. Standing at Arrowfield Stud.
Two sons of Dundeel feature in the catalogue including Lot 58 – out of the dual stakes winning dam Causeway Queen(Giant’s Causeway).
Camelot(Montjeu x Tarfah, by Kingmambo)
An unbeaten Group 1 winning Champion Two-Year-Old with the speed to win a Guineas and the class and acceleration to win the Epsom Derby by five lengths, a run throughout which he stayed unbeaten. Standing at Coolmore Australia, he has sired a stakes winner already in Alounak.
Two sons of Camelot will be offered at the Sale including Lot 68 – a three-quarter brother to the stakes winner Tora Bora (Grand Lodge).
Albrecht(Redoute’s Choice x O’Giselle, by Octagonal)
A son of champion stallion Redoute’s Choice, he is out of a full sister to champion stallion Lonhro. Winner of the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes, Albrecht stands at Darley Australia.
Albrecht has one entry at the Sale, Lot 108 - out of the stakes winning dam Empress Pegasus (Fusaichi Pegasus).
Dawn Approach(New Approach x Hymn of the Dawn, by Phone Trick)
Undefeated European Champion at two with six sensational wins and still unbeaten when taking the Group 1 Two Thousand Guineas by five lengths. Standing at Darley Australia.
One two-year-old by Dawn Approach is in the catalogue, Lot 311 - a three quarter brother to the multiple stakes winner and Group 3 performer Noble Cavalier (Royal Academy).
Declaration of War(War Front x Tempo West, by Rahy)
Carrying the successful Danzig line, Declaration of War was unbeaten at two and a Group 1 winner as an older horse. He won the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes and the Group 1 Juddmonte International. Standing at Coolmore Australia, he has already sired this season’s Group 3 winner Actress, and stakes winner Eirene.
Declaration of War has four of his progeny entered at the Sale including Lot 409 – out of the Group 1 New Zealand Derby performer Uberalles (NZ) (Giant’s Causeway) and from the family of Group 1 Melbourne Cup winner Ethereal (NZ) (Rhythm).
Epaulette(Commands x Accessories, by Singspiel)
A dual Group 1 winner, Epaulette won the Golden Rose Stakes and the Doomben 10,000 in his three-year-old season and placed second in the Group 2 Todman Slipper Trial at two. Standing at Darley Australia.
Epaulette has three of his progeny entered at the Sale including Lot 208 – a three-quarter brother to Group 3 winner Rezone (Electronic Zone), and stakes winning Group 1 performer Danyon (Success Express).
Eurozone(Northern Meteor x Miss Vandal, by Don’t Say Halo)
Undefeated as a two-year-old, Eurozone went on to claim the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes beating home the likes of Criterion, and placed in two Group 1 races in his three-year-old season. Standing at Newgate Farm.
Eurozone will be represented by two of his progeny including Lot 218 – a three-quarter brother to international stakes winner and Group 1 performer Happy Zero (Danzero).
Ferlax(Pentire x Legs Akimbo, by Marscay)
Ferlax was unbeaten in his first three starts, and proving this was no fluke, at his next start he easily won the Group 1 Australian Guineas. As a four-year-old he finished second at weight-for-age level in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes. He stood at Haunui Farm.
Five two-year-olds by Ferlax will be offered at the Sale including Lot 436 – out of the Group 3 winner Yanna Marie (NZ)(Lord Ballina) who is the dam of last season’s winner Katiem Marie (NZ)(Savabeel), and Lot 386 – a half-brother to the multiple stakes winner, and Macau Horse of the Year in 2012-13, Luck of Smiling(NZ) (Elusive City).
Shamus Award(Snitzel x Sunset Express, by Success Express)
The highest rated and only dual Group 1 winning son of Snitzel, Shamus Award was a multiple stakes performer at two. Claiming the Group 1 WS Cox Plate and the Group 1 Australian Guineas at three he was awarded the Champion Three-Year-Old Colt in Australia in 2013-14. Standing at Widden Stud.
Shamus Award has three entries at the Sale including Lot 357 – out of the dual Group 3 winner Solvini(NZ) (Bertolini).
Sizzling(Snitzel x Admirelle, by General Nediym)
A Group 1 winning juvenile, Sizzling is the only son of Snitzel to stand at stud that has won a Group 1 at two. He also claimed two Group 2 titles and the Listed Memorial Classic in the same season, as well as the Group 2 Queensland Guineas at three. Standing at Widden Stud.
Four of Sizzling’s progeny will be at the Sale including Lot 310 – out of the stakes winner Really Flying (Real Quiet) who is already the dam of Group 3 winner and Group 2 performer Camporella (Exceed and Excel).
The Factor(War Front x Greyciousness, by Miswaki)
The Factor, a dual Group 1 winner and multiple Group 2 winner in America, commenced stud duties in America in 2013 and he has already left a northern hemisphere Group 1 winner in Noted and Quoted, Group 3 winner in Multiplier, and stakes winner in Cistron. Shuttles to Newgate Farm.
The Factor will be represented by three of his sons including Lot 16 – out of the stakes winning dam Amazing Tale (Tale of the Cat).
Unencumbered(Testa Rossa x Blizzardly, by More Than Ready)
A precocious two-year-old, Unencumbered was a multiple stakes winner at two including the Group 3 McLachlan Stakes. He was a leading two-year-old colt in Australia with earnings over $1.9 million. Standing at Three Bridges Thoroughbreds.
Unencumbered has one entry at the Sale, Lot 328 – a three-quarter brother to the stakes performer Silk and Money (Frisco View).
The 2017 Ready to Run Sale has attracted a total of 437 two-year-olds.
Breeze Ups are set to be conducted at Te Rapa Racecourse on 16 & 17 October with the last 200m of their work filmed and timed. The footage will be available online from 20 October at www.nzb.co.nz.
