Fast Dragon Sets Sights on Sydney
15 April 2013
In form sire Fastnet Rock notched up stakes winner number 43 on Saturday at Ellerslie with Karaka graduate Fast Dragon winning the $50,000 Listed Windsor Park Stud Champagne Stakes (1600m).
Fast Dragon may now head to Sydney |
The Bruce Wallace trained two-year-old (Fastnet Rock x Secret Silence) had two starts coming into the longest two-year-old race in New Zealand, being unplaced in both, but being set for this race put in a performance that suggests that he has a lot more to offer on the track.
Ridden by jockey Paul Taylor, Fast Dragon was ridden quietly in mid-field before getting clear in the straight and showing good acceleration, surging to a comfortable long neck win with fellow Karaka graduates Whistling Dixie (Pins) finishing second and Puccini (Encosta de Lago) third.
Connections outlined after the race that should Fast Dragon come through the race in good order, he may be taken to Sydney to contest the 1800 metre juvenile races in Sydney.
Fast Dragon is raced by Hong Kong resident Peter Chiu and was purchased by Wallace Thoroughbreds from his breeder Westbury Stud at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2012 Karaka Premier Sale for $125,000.
