First Season Sires: Karaka 2009

Karaka 2009 marks the introduction of twenty-four first season sires represented by their first crop at New Zealand Bloodstock's National Yearling Sales.

The progeny of these sires make up 244 lots of the 1710 catalogued for Karaka 2009, all of which will be highly anticipated by buyers seeking to find the next successful progenitor amongst the sire ranks.

BENECIO (AUS):
More Than Ready -Mannington, by Danehill

Select: 3

This Group 1 VRC Derby winner is a grandson of Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Bint Marscay, while his sire More Than Ready sired last season's Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Sebring. An early maturing youngster, Bradbury's Luck was a stakes winning juvenile before the Christmas of his two-year-old season. By Champion sire Redoute's Choice and out of the dual Group One winning mare Skating, Bradbury's Luck went on to capture the LR Magic Millions 2yo Classic, a race won by successful sires Snippets, General Nediym and Testa Rossa previously. A Group 3 winner at two, followed by a Group 1 Santa Anita Derby win at three and a Gr1 Shoemaker Mile win at four, puts Castledale into the elite category of racehorses. He shares grand-dam Secretarial Queen with successful NZ sire Keeper. Castledale shuttles between the USA and Te Runga Stud in Auckland. 2006 service fee $8,000.

From the sire family of Redoute's Choice, Umatilla, El Gran Senor and Try My Best, Domesday was a top two-year-old winning the Group 2 Silver Slipper and then not finishing further back than fifth in the Group 1 Golden Slipper, Group 1 AJC Sires Produce, and Gr2 Todman Stakes. By the ill-fated champion racehorse Dubai Millenium, Dubawi was an undefeated two-year-old winning the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes, while at three he won the Group 1 Irish Two Thousand Guineas and the Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marios, earning himself a Timeform rating of 130. He represented his Champion Sire Redoute's Choice as his top choice yearling at the 2004 Magic Millions Sale. His female family contains Golden Slipper winners Luskin Star and Vain. This son of Sunday Silence was a stakes winner and/or performer at three, four, and five years of age. As a four-year-old he took the Group 1 Japan Cup along with two other Japanese Group 1 races. He is a half-brother to Darling My Darling (Deputy Minister) who won two Listed stakes races and was multiple Grade I placed in America. Zenno Rob Roy stood at Java Thoroughbreds in 2006 for $15,000.
