Fix Looking to Extend NZB Filly Series Lead

7 February 2013

Current New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series leader Fix will attempt to extend her lead in the Series when she contests the $100,000 Group 2 Cambridge Stud Sir Tristram Fillies Classic (2000m) at Te Rapa on Saturday.

With two legs of this season’s Series already under her belt – the Group 2 Eight Carat Classic/Royal Stakes double – the three-year-old daughter of Iffraaj heads the 11 horse field in Race 8 of the 10-race Series on Saturday.

Fix sits on 19.5 points to date, 4.5 points clear of the equal-second place holders Soriano and Rollout the Carpet who is not running in Saturday’s race. Saturday’s winner will collect 8 points, with second earning 4 points and third earning 2.

One of the main lead up races to the Group 1 NZ Oaks – the final leg of the Series – the Sir Tristram Fillies Classic will see a rematch between Fix and Kidwelly (Dylan Thomas) who fought out the finish in the Group 2 NZB Royal Stakes where Kidwelly finished the closest of seconds, earning 4 Series points.

On 15 points, highly consistent filly Soriano (Savabeel) comes into the race after running second-equal in the Group 3 Desert Gold Stakes at Trentham in January. She won the Group 3 Eulogy Stakes in December and a win on Saturday would give her the Series lead as long as Fix finishes further back than second.

Carrying the sponsor’s colours is Abidewithme (Redoute’s Choice) who has won three of her four starts, including her last at Ellerslie, and Lovetessa (O’Reilly) who ran third in the Eulogy Stakes two starts ago earning 1.5 points.

Stakes winning filly Emerald Queen (O’Reilly) ran second in the Eulogy Stakes but comes into the Group 2 after being unplaced in her last run in the NZB Royal Stakes on New Year’s Day at Ellerslie at her first start over ground.

Catalma (Old Deuteronomy), Jimato (Handsome Ransom) and Miss Enders (Not a Single Doubt) all made their Series debut in the Desert Gold Stakes finishing unplaced but they have all won races during their short careers and will have their first start over 2000 metres on Saturday.

Raffles Dancers – the owner of Sacred Falls – will be looking for another stakes win with More Than Sacred (More Than Ready) who won her last start impressively at Te Rapa.

Passionate (Keeper) completes the field and also comes into the race off a last start victory at Te Rapa in late January.
