Foxette Outfoxes Them In The Mercedes Fillies Prelude

27 December 2002

Foxette (Entrepreneur x Blucielo) broke through for a stylish maiden victory when taking out the rich $150,000 Mercedes Super Bonus Prelude for 2YO Fillies (1100m) at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

In a tight finish the consistent Foxette, aided by the skills of top jockey Greg Childs, prevailed by a long head from the fast finishing and somewhat unlucky debutant Traffic Stopper (Volksraad x Startling Lady), who herself just got home in second place by a neck from Swing the Cat (Tale of the Cat x Awave) who added another third placing to her record.

Foxette is trained by Colin Jillings and Richard Yuill, who are no strangers to producing talented 2YOs to win Mercedes Super Bonus Series races, with their recent 2YO star Flying Babe (Flying Spur x Cast Your Fate) the winner of the highlight of the Mercedes Super Bonus Series, the $500,000 Mercedes Classique in 2001.

Foxette was purchased at the 2002 New Zealand Bloodstock Select Fillies Sale by New Zealand Bloodstock as agent for $17,000 from the draft of Cambridge Stud. She is raced by Messrs PJ Callinan, GB Cooksley, TJ Moore, BJ O'Shaughnessy, AG Vaughan and PF Williams.

The next race in the Mercedes Super Bonus Series is at Avondale on January 11 and carries a bonus of $10,000 for enrolled graduates of the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales Series.
