Victory in the third leg of the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series by Coldplay has boosted the pedigree of her full-brother who is catalogued at Lot 297 in the 2016 Karaka Premier Sale from Mapperley Stud.

Trained by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, Coldplay won a 1400m maiden at her second start before competing against the colts and geldings in the Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial 3yo over 1500 metres at her last start.

Premiership leading rider Lisa Allpress was having her first ride on Coldplay, starting from barrier 8. Allpress settled the Savabeel filly in fourth, one horse off the rail, before taking the lead soon after straightening to win convincingly by three-lengths over Bella Court (NZ) (Per Incanto) in second with Fame Seeker (NZ) (Showcasing) half-a-neck away in third.

“She’s always shown us she has plenty of ability,” commented Forsman. “She’s a well-bred filly, so it always great to get a black-type win early in her career.”

In winning the Eulogy Stakes Coldplay earned 6 points towards the Filly of the Year Series with Bella Court gaining 3 points and Fame Seeker collecting 1.5 points. Group 1 NZB 1000 Guineas winner Risque (NZ) (Darci Brahma) currently leads the Series on 12 points.

Saturday’s victory took Coldplay’s earnings to $46,200 for her owners Garry Chittick of Waikato Stud and Gary Wallace.

Bred by Wallace, Coldplay is out of winning O’Reilly mare Forty Two Below, a full-sister to Listed winner and Group 1 placed The Big Chill (O’Reilly). She became the 44th stakes winner for Waikato Stud sire Savabeel.
