Full Brother to Vonusti at Karaka

25 January 2010

A full brother to scintillating Group 1 The Oaks Stud Telegraph Handicap (1200m) winner Vonusti will be offered by Brighthill Farm at the 2010 Karaka Select Sale.

Lot 644 full vonusti

Lot 644 - the full brother to Vonusti set to sell at Karaka 2010

Vonusti (Ustinov x Reasonably, by Sound Reason) won the $1,000,000 Telegraph with a barn-storming run down the outside of Trentham's champagne turf to beat a red-hot field which included Group 1 Australian raider A Gold Trail (Hussonet), reigning NZ Horse of the Year Mufhasa (Pentire), Group 1 winner Tavistock (Montjeu), Group 1 placed Veloz (Black Minaloushe) and Richard Beymer (Volksraad), Group winners Wall Street (Montjeu), Ruud Van Slaats (Van Nistelrooy), and Coup Align (Align), and Listed winners Wealth Princess (San Luis), Tootsie (Pins), Stupendous (Pentire), and Keano (Pins).

Tim and Margaret Carter train Vonusti after he was offered through the Karaka sales ring twice, once as a yearling, and again through the 2006 NZB Ready to Run Sale. He is one of eleven Group 1 winners offered through the Karaka sale ring already this season.

Owned by Tom and Philip O'Shea, and Ramesh Patel, Vonusti has over $730,000 in prize-money in the bank after eight wins from just 18 starts.

At Lot 644, the bay brother of Vonusti is a half-brother to four winners and is a member of the successful Bourbon Lassie family which has left the likes of Group 1 VRC Derby winner Omnicorp, and recent Group 1 place-getters Miss Scarlatti (Stravinsky), Splashing Out (O'Reilly), Ticklish (Maroof), and Woburn (Groom Dancer).

One of eight Ustinovs catalogued at Karaka, the striking bay (click here for video) should attract plenty of admirers with another close relative, Volkarrie (Volksraad), also updating the pedigree with two further wins since the catalogue has been to print.

Reset Harriet Filly

Lot 442, a Reset filly closely related to Vonusti

There are a number of Vonusti's close relatives also set to sell at Karaka 2010. At Lot 442 is a filly by Reset whose dam is a half-sister to Vonusti's dam. To be offered by Lyndhurst Farm the filly is a half-sister to Group winner Woburn who was good enough to place in both the Group 1 NZ Derby and Group 1 South Australian Derby.

In the Select Sale three colts closely related to Vonusti will be offered. Fairdale Stud will offer a Howbaddouwantit colt from a half-sister to Vonusti's dam at Lot 1087, a half-brother to stakes-winners Dabeer Zaheer and Mynzawine.

Fairdale Stud's bay colt by Lucky Unicorn (Lot 647) and Windsor Park Stud's Lot 487, a brown colt by Savabeel, are the other close relations of Vonusti catalogued.

Vonusti now heads towards the Group 1 Waikato Draught Sprint (1400m) at Te Rapa on 13 February, a Group 1 double which last year saw Mufhasa named 2008/09 Mercedes New Zealand Horse of the Year.

New Zealand Bloodstock's National Yearling Sales Series (1-8 February) begin on Monday with selling getting underway at 11am each day.
