Gibbs Quinella in Listed NZB Soliloquy Stakes

2 October 2006

The $50,000 Listed New Zealand Bloodstock Soliloquy Stakes (1400m) at Ellerslie on Saturday saw masterful filly trainer, Jim Gibbs, capture a quinella with Imananabaa (Anabaa x Iman) finishing ahead of Velvet and Satin (Carnegie x Romanee Conti) in second place.

Imananbaa
Imananabaa (Anabaa x Iman) & Reese Jones streak ahead in the $50,000 Listed NZB Soliloquy Stakes (1400m).

Amid a classy field of three-year-olds, Imananabaa and Reese Jones pulled away comfortably from the pack to finish almost two lengths ahead of Velvet and Satin and the rest of the field.

Bred and sold by Russell and Robyn Rogers' Rodmor Stud, Imananabaa was purchased at the 2005 Karaka Premier Sale for NZ$310,000 and is owned by prominent racing identities Sir Patrick Hogan, Alistair Sutherland and Peter Walker. An exciting entry under Rodmor Stud's draft at next year's Karaka Premier Yearling Sale is the talented filly's half brother by Stravinsky.

The Pencarrow Stud bred Velvet and Satin, a half sister to Melbourne Cup winner Ethereal (Rhythm x Romanee Conti), finished well and looks sure to get over more ground.

Both fillies are aimed at the next race in the Series, the $275,000 Group 1 New Zealand Bloodstock One Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton on November 11.

Debut starter Whodat Cugat's (King Cugat x Over the Counter) gallant run for third should have lost her no fans.

This, the second race of the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series, gives Saturday's first three home their first points on the Series leaderboard. The lead in the Series is held by Group 3 Highview Stakes winner Naturo (Postponed x Rubiton's Best), two points ahead of Imananabaa on four.
