Glamorous Girl Stars at NZB Horses-in-Training SessionNew Zealand Bloodstock's inaugural Horses-in-Training (HIT) Session immediately followed the completion of the Weanling Sale today at Karaka, with the Thorn Park mare Glamorous Girl topping the selection of 50 racehorses on offer.
Group 3 Desert Gold Stakes winner Glamorous Girl (Lot 399) was purchased by Marcus Corban Bloodstock for $180,000 from Scott Eagleton's Seaton Park. Targeting the five-year-old as a breeding proposition, Corban was thrilled with his purchase.
"She was the one we wanted and she was great value, we are very pleased with her," he commented.
"We purchased her because she is by Thorn Park and from a great broodmare sireline. The plan for her is to go straight to stud in the spring to Fastnet Rock."
Windsor Park Stud sire Thorn Park (Spinning World) is well and truly hitting his straps of late, fielding the impressive NZ Derby winner Jimmy Choux and becoming the only stallion so far this season to sire three individual Group 1 winners in Australasia. He has also recently broken the record for progeny earnings in New Zealand in a single season.
The HIT session provided two other six-figure sales this afternoon, with the Faltaat mare Catalina (Lot 391) and the Dubawi gelding Isle of Arran (Lot 403) both fetching $100,000.
With each entry in this session having raced, trialled or breezed up in the current season, in total 34 HIT entries were sold for $629,300 at an average price of $19,070 and a clearance rate of 85%.
The HIT Session was immediately followed by the first 130 of the 297 broodmares on offer.
Amongst the broodmare highlights was the six-year-old Royal Academy mare which provided the top price of the session very early in proceedings, fetching $85,000 to the bid of New Zealand Bloodstock as agent (Lot 428). Offered by Raffles Farm, the dual winner and stakes performer, named Royal Ambition, is already the dam of two foals by Danehill Dancer and is carrying a positive test to first season covering sire Mastercraftsman.
Currently the leading individual broodmare buyer is Sydney-based Colm Santry Bloodstock, with four purchases made for $151,500, including a top price of $68,000 paid for the Volksraad mare Showgirl (Lot 448). A five-time winner and multiple Group performer she is carrying a positive test to promising young sire Iffraaj.
With 95 mares sold so far, the Broodmare Session turnover is $843,400, representing an average of $8,882 with an 83% clearance rate. There are a further 166 broodmares catalogued for sale tomorrow, plus four supplementary broodmare entries that will be offered at the end of the broodmare session.
The 2011 Weanling Session was completed earlier in the day at Karaka, with full results here. There are a host of weanling pinhooking and investment opportunities still available - click here for the full list of weanlings that were passed through the ring.
The third and final day of New Zealand Bloodstock's National Weanling, Broodmare & mixed Bloodstock Sale commences at 10am tomorrow, with Lots 551 to 716 of the Broodmare Session, followed by yearlings, two-year-olds, unraced stock, racehorses, stallion shares and supplementary entries.
