Good Weekend for Karaka 2014 Siblings

Karaka 2014 – starting next Monday - received a number of significant pedigree updates throughout the PremierSelect and Festival Sales with top performances on both sides of the Tasman at the weekend.

IRISH FLING

Irish Fling (NZ) has a full-sister at Karaka 2014.

The updates were headed by the Group 1 success of Irish Fling (NZ) (Darci Brahma) in the $250,000 Telegraph Handicap, with her full-sister catalogued at Lot 59 in the Premier Sale for first-time vendors Milan Park.

The win by Abidewithme (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice) in the Listed $50,000 Tui – Backing a Winner Since 1889 Anniversary Handicap was a further boost to the pedigree of her half-brother catalogued at Lot 428 in the Premier Sale.

Midnite Promise (NZ) (Librettist) enhanced the pedigree of his yearling half-brother catalogued at Lot 1143 in the Festival Sale with a black-type success in the Listed $50,000 Liquorland Gore Guineas on Saturday, his second win from as many starts.

In Australia, Karaka graduate Laidback Larry (NZ) (O’Reilly) won his fourth consecutive race in his short career for leading trainer Gai Waterhouse with victory over 2000m at Randwick on Saturday. The stable now has Group 1 Caulfield Cup ambitions for the four-year-old son of O’Reilly. A full-brother to Laidback Larry is catalogued at Lot 92 for Phoenix Park.

The premier meeting at Trentham also featured two winners on the undercard to the stakes races with siblings at Karaka 2014. Charlestown(NZ) (Myboycharlie) was too strong in the Rating 65 1400m for Go Racing and Lisa Latta, and has a half-brother by Swiss Ace catalogued at Lot 731 in Select Sale.

The last race at Trentham was won by the Waikato Stud owned Costume (NZ) (Savabeel). The Graeme and Debbie Rogerson trained mare was successful in the Rating 75 1600m event and has a half-sister by Pins catalogued at Lot 446 in the Premier Sale for Waikato Stud.

South Islander The Solitaire (NZ) (O’Reilly) travelled north to Pukekohe on Saturday and claimed the feature race on the programme with victory in the $25,000 NRM Open Handicap over 1600m. The daughter of O’Reilly was having her first start since finishing second in the Group 2 Coupland Bakeries’ Mile. She has a half-brother by Darci Brahma catalogued at Lot 300 in the Premier Sale for Phoenix Park.

Also a winner at Pukekohe on Saturday was A Touch of Ruby (NZ) (Pins) in the Rating 85 1300m. The four-year-old mare sold by Trelawney Stud at the 2011 Karaka Premier Sale has now won three races and has a half-sister by Savabeel catalogued at Lot 290 in this year’s Premier Sale.

New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sales Series commences next week with the Premier Sale on 27 & 28 January, Select Sale 29-31 January and the one-day Festival Sale on 2 February.
