Group 1 Glory for Miss Raggedy Ann in Railway Stakes

2 January 2011

Yesterday's $200,000 Group 1 Blandford Lodge Railway Stakes (1200m) saw Karaka graduate Miss Raggedy Ann score an 80/1 upset in New Zealand's premier sprint race.

The daughter of Faltaat was given a confident ride by Tasha Collet and kicked for home down the Ellerslie straight to score by a nose in a driving finish in front of Atapi (Last Tycoon).

This is the first black type win for the Andrew Scott trained five-year-old whose last outing saw her place eleventh in the ARC Newmarket Handicap on Boxing Day. She has now earned delighted owners Llanhennock Trust a total of $212,637 in stakes winnings.

Miss Raggedy Ann is out of Miss Pollyanna (Gold Brose) and was offered at the 2007 Premier Yearling Sale by Wentwood Grange.

In what was a successful weekend for sire Faltaat, Miss Raggedy Ann brought his tally of Group 1 winning progeny to six while Little Bridge's victory in the HK-3 Chinese Challenge Cup in Hong Kong and a win for Fears Nothing in the $100,000 Group 2 Rich Hill Mile (1600m), also at Ellerslie, brings his number of stakeswinners to 20.

Another Karaka graduate to score their first black type victory yesterday at Ellerslie, Fears Nothing held off a strong field of 18 to win by half-a-length in front of Sir Jack Gunno.

Trained by David Haworth and Matt Dixon, Fears Nothing is out of the Sadler's Wells mare Magical Moment and has a half-brother by Excellent Art, Lot 1009, set to go under the hammer at the Karaka 2011 Select Sale.

Fears Nothing was bought by trainer David Haworth at the 2007 Karaka Premier Sale from Pencarrow Stud for $95,000.
