Group Three Win For $5,200 Purchase Our King Sway (NZ)

Our King Sway (NZ) (Shinko King) cost just $5,200 as a weanling at Karaka, and an impressive win in Saturday’s $80,000 Group 3 Platinum Homes Taranaki Cup (1800m) took his career earnings through the $100,000 barrier.

The gelding, trained and part-owned by Glenn Old in Matamata, came from last with a sustained move around the outside of the field. He faced stiff resistance in the straight, but with Anna Jones in the saddle he ground his way to victory by a long neck.

“It was pretty comfortable in the end,” Jones said. “He had been knocking on the door and when the rain came it was just perfect for him.”

Bred by Mrs P J Lewis & C P Tau, Our King Sway was offered by Century Lodge at the 2011 National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale where Old purchased him for $5,200.

Our King Sway has now had 26 starts for four wins, eight placings and $104,740 for owners V S Nowell, G J & M A Old.

The 2017 National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale will be held at Karaka from 8 to 10 May.
