Half-Brother to Alamosa at Karaka

27 January 2008

Yesterday's outstanding winner of the Group 1 $250,000 The Trusts Charitable Foundation Thorndon Mile, was a cracking advertisement for his yearling half-brother at the Karaka Premier Sale on Monday.

Alamosa (O'Reilly - Lodore Mystic) outgunned the older horses to win by three-quarters of a length to Dezigna in second and Final Reality in third place. In doing so he became the first three-year-old to win the race in the last 20 years.

Trained and part-owned by Peter McKay, the impressive colt now has eight wins, four seconds and a third from his 15 career starts.

Since the Sale catalogue went to print, Alamosa has also notched up a Group 1 second in the Two Thousand Guineas behind The Pooka, a Group 2 win in the Avondale Guineas and a Group 3 win in the Wellington Stakes earlier this month.

Bred by Garry Chittick, Waikato Stud will be offering a No Excuse Needed colt out of the Centaine mare Lodore Mystic at Lot 226 of the Premier Sale.

Selling at the New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Sale starts at 11am on Monday 28 January.
