Half-Brother to Floria at NZB Ready to Run

The Kiwi-bred and owned mare Floria (NZ) (Savabeel) gained further valuable black-type success and bolstered her half-brother�s pedigree for the upcoming New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale with a decisive win the Group 3 A$135,750 Le Pine Funerals Summoned Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

Diamond Lodge will offer a half-brother to Floria by O�Reilly, catalogued at Lot 319, at New Zealand Bloodstock�s Ready to Run Sale that will commence tomorrow (Tuesday) at Karaka.

Floria is the fifth stakeswinner by the Waikato Stud sire Savabeel since September, with Savvy Nature (twice), �clair Big Bang, Classique Ivory and Saviour the Moment all collecting fresh black type. Savabeel is represented by 14 two-year-olds in this week�s Ready to Run Sale catalogue.

Carrying the colours of Haunui Farm, Floria finally gained black-type success in Australia having won at stakes level in New Zealand and collected a string of minor placings in Australia including a Group 1 third.

The Savabeel filly was last seen in the Group 1 Meyer Classic at Flemington, finishing a game sixth having been trapped wide without cover during the middle stages of the race and accordingly started as race-favourite on Saturday.

Trained by Peter Moody and ridden by leading jockey Craig Newitt, the six-year-old mare settled mid-field in the 12-horse race. Despite having a tendency to over-race during the middle stages, Floria had a strong finish at the end of the race and drew away for a three-quarter length victory.

�She has been racing well consistently in top-class mares races and she obviously found the right race and it was nice to get a win on the board,� commented Peter Moody.

�She was stakes-placed for me and she has been Group 1 and Group 2 placed so it was nice to get some bold black-type in her pedigree here.

�She is a nice type of mare. She is quite a big rangy mare, not too heavy and quite athletic, just a nice package.

�She will go for a break now and be aimed for the autumn and those good mares� races.�

Formerly trained by Stephen McKee in New Zealand, the second stakes victory for the mare came at start number 30. She has now earned A$321,321 for her connections that include Haunui Farm�s Ron Chitty along with Ms C W Franich & Mr D M Nicol.

Bred by Richard Moore of Soliloquy Lodge, Floria is out of stakes placed mare Aria (Centaine), a half-sister to stakes winner Agamemnon (Generous), and is from the famous family of Moore�s that includes New Zealand Filly of the Year Solveig (Imposing).

The win was a timely boost for the Aria�s two-year-old son by O�Reilly that is due to go under the hammer at New Zealand Bloodstock�s Ready to Run Sale on the second day of selling this Wednesday.

The NZB Ready to Run Sale came close to having further significant pedigree updates with Viadana (NZ) (Towkay) narrowly missing out on adding the Group 3 Tauranga Stakes to her credit when finishing second on Saturday. A full-brother to the Group 1 winner is catalogued at Lot 300 and will be presented by Lyndhurst Farm at this week�s Sale.

Another close relation to a Sale entrant to feature prominently on the weekend was Guns at Five (NZ) (Duelled), a tough third placegetter carrying top weight over 3200m in the Group 3 New Zealand Cup. The Chris Wood trained galloper is out of Accidentallyinlove (Cape Cross), the half-sister of Lot 29 at the Ready to Run Sale, a gelding by Keeper set to be offered by Bradbury Park.

The most successful Sale of its kind in Australasia, New Zealand Bloodstock�s Ready to Run Sale will start selling this Tuesday and Wednesday, 19 & 20 November, with horses available for inspection now at the Karaka Sales Complex.
