Half-Sister to Rhythm to Spare at Karaka 2016

Kiwi galloper Rhythm to Spare (NZ) (Pins) added another stakes victory to his tally with triumph in the A$130,000 Listed Wandong Bus & Coach Kilmore Cup (1600m) at Kilmore yesterday.

A winner at Group 3 level previously, Rhythm to Spare has a half-sister by All Too Hard entered in the 2016 Karaka Premier Sale at Lot 87 from Pencarrow Stud. The catalogue for the 2016 Karaka Premier Sale was released today and can be viewed here.

Rhythm to Spare was a last start winner in an undercard race on Flemington’s Group 1 Emirates Stakes day for trainer Michael Moroney. Rhythm to Spare was the winner of eight races from 27 starts including the Group 3 RA Lee Stakes by an impressive three-and-a-half-lengths last year.

Debuting as a three-year-old in New Zealand with two consecutive placings, the son of Pins ran fourth in the Group 1 Queensland Derby early on in his Australian campaign.

Anthony Feroce, racing manager for trainer Mike Moroney, said the son of Pins may head to Sydney for a feature race in the New Year.

“He’s done very well for us and all being well we might send him up for the Villiers,” Feroce said. “He’s a very good miler, he’s only been over further twice and he finished second in the Grand Prix Stakes and fourth in the Queensland Derby.”

One of the first away from barrier 8 for jockey Mark Zahra, Rhythm to Spare settled in second position to race one off the fence. The son of Pins gained momentum down the home straight and raced away to win by a head over late challenger Eximus (Exceed and Excel)  with Longeron (Lonhro) finishing in third.

The six-year-old gelding has won A$419,372 for connections Ballymore Stables (Aust) Pty Ltd, GG Ltd, Mr J A O’Neill, Carty Racing, Mr A Dunne, Mr M Pejic, Mrs J Pejic, Mr G Devonport, Ms J A N Lee, Mr R S Scheriani, Mrs A Scheriani, Mr B D Nettlefold and R & C Legh Racing Pty Ltd.

Paul Moroney Bloodstock purchased Rhythm to Spare at the 2011 Karaka Premier Sale for NZ$100,000 from Pencarrow Stud.

Bred by Pencarrow Stud’s Sir Peter Vela and brother Philip Vela, the son of Pins is out of stakes placegetter Stanica (Zabeel), runner-up in the Group 1 Avondale Gold Cup. Stanica is the dam of four named foals including seven-time winner Stanica Star (Danzero), Makarska (Keeper), the winner of six races, and Rathausglockel (Pins), a winner of three races in Singapore.
