Half the Card to NZB Graduates in Singapore

22 July 2013

Karaka Sales graduates have taken out seven races on the 12 race program in Singapore on Sunday night including the feature race, the S$75,000 Kranji Stakes (1200m), taken out by Ready to Run graduate Philanthropist.

The feature race was won in a tight finish by Ready to Run graduate Philanthropist (Churchill Downs), the race favourite. A $21,000 purchase by Mr Z L Mok from Esker Lodge at the 2011 Ready to Run Sale, Philanthropist took the entire straight to grind down the leader Klever Man (Dehere) to win narrowly on the line.

Elusive City was also a star of the night as he sired a double with Max Velocity and Power and Glory.

Max Velocity (ex. Florete) took out Race 8 for ex-pat Kiwi trainer Bruce Marsh. A graduate of the 2007 Karaka Select Sale, he was bought by Lisa Latta Racing Stables from Windsor Park Stud for $25,000. Elusive City had earlier sired the winner of the first race on the card with kiwi bred Power and Glory for Brian Dean and Shadrach No 2 Stable.

The night saw New Zealand trainer Mark Walker achieve an impressive milestone when he trained his 1000th winner. The Te Akau Racing Stables head trainer for many years in New Zealand and now in Singapore brought up the mark with the win of My Tricia (One Cool Cat). She was bought by Te Akau’s David Ellis from the 2011 Karaka Premier Sale for $55,000 from Cambridge Stud.

Other winners on the night included the well-bred daughter of Eloa (Volksraad) Kallisan (Stratum) for owner King George Stable syndicate. The first foal of the Group 3 Hawke’s Bay Highview Stakes winner has now won four races in Singapore for former NZ trainer Stephen Gray who purchased the filly from the 2009 Premier Sale from Little Avondale Stud for $220,000.
