Half to Take the Rap at Karaka 2010

31 January 2010

Karaka's quinella of the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) in Melbourne yesterday saw positive ramifications flow right through the Karaka 2010 National Yearling Sale Series.

Take the Rap (No Excuse Needed x Aroon, by Volksraad), a talented two-year-old who has clearly trained on, deservedly won the $150,000 event after proving super consistent this preparation.

Take the Rap defeated fellow Karaka graduate Encosta Belief (Encosta De Lago) in a close finish with both gaining many admirers, and as a colt, Take the Rap certainly gaining residual value, especially considering he is from the immediate family of O'Reilly.

Waikato Stud bred and sold for $135,000 at Karaka Premier, the Chittick's will offer a half-brother to the Group 3 winner at Karaka 2010.

Lot 275 (click here for video) is a colt by Savabeel who has begun his stud career with a bang in leaving two juvenile stakes-winners and, tonight at Ellerslie on Karaka Million night, his oldest crop of three-year-olds could provide timely success when No Emotion starts amongst the favoured runners in the $200,000 Karaka 3YO Mile and Suriyana continues her journey to the Group 1 NZ Oaks in the Wexford Stables Team Advantage (1400m).

Besides O'Reilly other notable members of the Lot 275's family include Courtza, Hunza, Our Pompeii, Kapchat, and last weekend's Group 1 Telegraph Handicap fourth placed Keano (Pins).

The win also provided a nice boost for Waikato stud sire No Excuse Needed, the sire of last season's Group 1 AJC oaks winner Daffodil, who is represented by 23 yearlings through Karaka's Premier, Select, and Festival Sessions.

Highlights for No Excuse Needed include a half-sister to Group 3 winner Yanna Marie at Lot 393, and a half-sister to Stakes-winner Kildare and One Love at Lot 462.

New Zealand Bloodstock's National Yearling Sales Series (1-8 February) begins at 11am on Monday, 1 February.
