Heat Haze Half-Sister at Karaka

17 January 2010

The rise and rise of Heat Haze on the racetrack in recent months could not have come at a better time for her half-sister who will be offered by Loch-Haven Thoroughbreds at Karaka 2010.

Heat Haze (Zabeel x Western Flame, by Zafonic) herself was offered through Karaka in 2006 and since then she has continued to develop to the point where yesterday she became the 135th stakes-winner for her sire when running down a field of 15 to win the Listed Gallagher Group Marton Cup (2200m).

zabeel

Trained by Paul Jenkins, Heat Haze was bred by Lorna Moore from her US-bred mare Western Flame whose three visits to Zabeel have also produced promising Clarry Connors trained three-year-old filly Zaflame.

From a superb international family, Western Flame hails from the Welsh Flame family which is responsible for the likes of successful sire Marju, Group 1 Irish Derby and Group 1 English 1000 Guineas winner Salsabil, and Group 1 Breeders' Cup Turf winner Northern Spur.

These internationally recognised bloodlines will available at Karaka 2010 when Western Flame's fifth foal, a filly by exciting first season sire prospect Darci Brahma, goes under the hammer in the Select Session at Lot 798.

The filly, who already boasts a ton of residual value, could be described as a five-eighths sister to Heat Haze when you consider that her five time Group 1 winning sire is out of a Zabeel mare himself.
