Honor That (NZ) Springs Surprise in NZB Airfreight Stakes
6 March 2016
There was an upset result in the second leg of the New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year Series when Honor That (NZ) (Darci Brahma) scored at 22-to-one odds in Saturday’s Listed NZB Airfreight Stakes at Wingatui.
Ridden by Terry Moseley, who picked up the ride when the favourite Replique was scratched, Honor That emerged from the pack soon after turning for home and overpowered Cantilena (NZ) (Per Incanto) down the straight to win by a length and a quarter.
It was the second win from 17 starts for the filly, who is trained and part-owned by Peter Rudkin. She was bred by The Oaks Stud’s Dick Karreman and Rick Williams, who offered her at the 2015 National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale where she was purchased by Rudkin for $4,000. She has now earned $50,475.
Honor That earned 7 Southern Filly of the Year Series points for Saturday’s victory, which gave her the equal lead with Windborne (NZ) (Darci Brahma) who won the Canterbury Belle Stakes in September.
Cantilena earned three points and now shares third place with Dezzies Dream (NZ) (Coats Choice).
Princess Davone (NZ) (Iffraaj), who already had 1 point after placing in the Canterbury Belle Stakes, followed that up with another third placing in Saturday’s race to lift her total to 2.
The Series continues with the Listed NZB Insurance Stakes over 1600 metres at Riccarton on April 16, then concludes a week later with the Listed NZB Warstep Stakes over 2000 metres.
