Huka Eagle (NZ) Wins Chairman’s Challenge Cup

Racing in his third different country, Karaka graduate Huka Eagle (NZ) (Swiss Ace) was a star performer on Saturday in one of Macau’s biggest races – the M$1,000,000 Listed Chairman’s Challenge Cup (1200m).
Bought at the 2013 Select Sale for $160,000, Huka Eagle began his career in New Zealand where he won three races and placed in the Group 1 Levin Classic (1600m). He then had five starts in Australia before relocating to Macau, where he has had another three wins including Saturday’s big race.
Ridden by expat New Zealand jockey Andrew Calder for trainer Geoff Allendorf, Huka Eagle scored an impressive victory by a length and a half and recorded a time of 1:10.1.
Overall, Huka Eagle has now had 25 starts for six wins, eight placings and prize-money in three countries – NZ$66,775, A$2,000 and more than M$1.5 million.
Bred by Westbury Stud owner Gerry Harvey, Huka Eagle is by Swiss Ace out of the High Yield mare Ugly Betty. Offered by Westbury Stud at the 2013 Select Sale, he was bought by Cambridge trainer Tony Pike for $160,000.
