Hyperbolic (NZ) Hits New Heights in Hawkesbury Feature

8 November 2026

Karaka 2023 graduate Hyperbolic (NZ) (Proisir) claimed the sixth and most significant win of her career in the A$200,000 Listed Evergreen Turf Ladies Day Cup (1500m) at Hawkesbury on Saturday.

Offered by Rich Hill Stud in Book 1 of Karaka 2023, Hyperbolic was bought by trainer Brad Widdup for $240,000. Her 22-race career has now produced six wins, nine placings and A$584,350.

Previously a placegetter in the Group Three Fillies and Mares’ Mile (1600m), Group Three Belle Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) and Listed Tattersall’s Gold Crown (2100m), Hyperbolic stepped up on Saturday and scored a deserved black-type breakthrough.

Hyperbolic was ridden by Adam Farragher and had a big drop in weight on Saturday, carrying 54 kilograms after finishing a last-start seventh under a 60-kilogram impost at Randwick on October 17.

A step slow to begin, Hyperbolic settled well back in the field and was still last coming around the home turn. But Farragher switched her back towards the rail and let her rip, and she flew through the inside to score a narrow but impressive win over the favourite Paltrow Miss (NZ) (Circus Maximus).

“A great opportunity for me to get a ride in this kind of race on a classy mare like Hyperbolic," Farragher said. “It’s good for a few of us jockeys who normally wouldn’t get the chance to ride in a stakes race.

“Hyperbolic has a big finish on her, and you can get away with drawing wide at Hawkesbury. My job was to find some cover from out there and give her every chance to show how good she is in the straight.”

Hyperbolic was one of two new stakes winners on Saturday for Rich Hill Stud stallion Proisir, who also sired the Group One New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m) winner Angels Halo (NZ). Proisir has 16 two-year-olds catalogued for this month’s NZB Ready to Run Sale at Karaka.
