Imananabaa Half-Brother at Karaka 2008
3 January 2008
A half-brother to the impressive winner of the New Year's Day feature Group 1 Waiwera Mineral Water Railway Handicap (1200m) at Ellerslie will be on offer at the New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Sale on 28 January.
Imananabaa (Anabaa - Iman) flew home in commanding fashion in the $200,000 Group 1 contest to beat favourite Needuask (Howbaddouwantit - Sky Mist) by a length and a quarter. Trained by Don Sellwood for owners Sir Patrick Hogan, Peter Walker and Alistair Sutherland, the win broke the four-year-old filly's run of three seconds in a row to give her her first Group 1 victory and a timely boost to the pedigree of her younger brother at Karaka.
Imananabaa's half-brother by Rock of Gibraltar is out of the unraced Zemindar mare Iman which was purchased by Rodmor Stud in foal to Anabaa. The resulting filly, Imananabaa, was purchased from the Premier Sale by the current owners for $310,000.
The grey colt being offered by Rodmor Stud at Lot 175 is one of eleven entries by his sire at the Premier Sale, which also include one of the standout fillies of the Sale, the half-sister to Shower of Roses from blueblood racemare Marquise at Lot 246.
Needuask was bought from the 2005 Karaka Select Sale for $34,000 by Mr & Mrs Barry Neville-White. The gelding's full sister will this year be offered by Fairdale Stud at Lot 987 of the Select Sale, with close relatives at Lot 686, Lot 694 and Lot 1041.
Karaka will also feature close relatives to three of the other feature race winners on New Year's Day at Ellerslie.
Remarkably, the winner of the Group 3 $75,000 Stella Artois Eclipse Stakes (1200m) Lady Alberton (Golan - Alberton Star) was the first of two consecutive winners on the day for her Stylish Century dam Alberton Star. Her second was in the $30,000 Winning Edge Mile (1600m) when four-year-old Red Square (Danske - Alberton Star) won by half a length for trainers Lance O'Sullivan and Andrew Scott. Lady Alberton and Red Square are represented at the Premier Sale by a half-sister by Windsor Park Stud stallion Thorn Park, at Lot 473.
Thorn Park recorded his first winner just days earlier with the win by the Mark Walker trained Reuben Thorn (Thorn Park - Our Sportsgirl) on 27 December. Thorn Park is represented at Karaka by 18 Premier Sale entries, 25 Select Sale entries and 2 Festival Sale entries.
Group 2 $125,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Royal Stakes (2000m) winner Satinka (Stravinsky - Miss Saigon) made it back-to-back wins following victory in the Group 2 Cambridge Stud Eight Carat Classic on Boxing Day. Select Sale entries at Lot 898 (colt by O'Reilly) and Lot 1042 (filly by One Cool Cat) are both close relatives to the promising three-year-old filly.
The $125,000 Group 2 Rich Hill Mile (1600m) saw six-year-old Fiscal Madness (Volksraad - Belle Nuite) defeat champion performer Sir Slick (Volksraad - Miss Opera) to record his 11th career victory and head a quinella for his Windsor Park Stud sire Volksraad. A half-brother to Fiscal Madness will be offered in the first hour of the Premier Sale with the colt by Savabeel entered at Lot 11.
In the final event at Ellerlslie on New Year's Day, Volksraad was also represented by the winning four-year-old mare Pam's Pompallier (Volksraad - Kaapentyne). The victory is the $72,500 Premier Sale graduate's fourth over 1400m and is a timely update to her half-brother's pedigree at Lot 190 of the Premier Sale.
