Immediacy (NZ) Remains Undefeated in Autumn Classic

Saturday’s A$300,000 Group Two Stow Storage Autumn Classic (1800m) at Caulfield produced a one-two finish for Karaka graduates, headed by a scintillating performance from an unbeaten up-and-comer.

Immediacy (NZ) (Tarzino) was sold for just $15,000 from Book 2 of Karaka 2022 to Kiltannon Stables, then returned later in the year and was a $200,000 purchase by trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young from Riverrock Farm’s Ready to Run Sale draft. Immediacy has now won all of his three starts and A$233,790 in stakes, with a whole lot more in store.

Runner-up Caracas (NZ) (Shocking) was also offered in Book 2 of Karaka 2022, where he was bought for $30,000 by Andrew Campbell Bloodstock. He has had three starts for a win and two second placings, earning A$80,590.

But although Caracas went into the race as the favourite and lost little in defeat, Saturday’s Autumn Classic was all about Immediacy.

Taking a big step up in class after scoring a narrow victory on debut at Cranbourne on December 29 and at Sandown three weeks later, Immediacy raised his game to a spectacular new level.

Immediacy was ridden by Luke Currie and over-raced through the early and middle stages of the race. He settled into a good rhythm coming down the side of the track, then swooped four-wide at the home turn and burst into contention.

Currie drove Immediacy to the lead with more than 200 metres remaining and the gelding powered clear, opening up a winning margin of three lengths over Caracas.

“It’s exciting to have a horse that can put together three wins from three starts, including a Group Two along the way,” Young said. “We might have another genuine Derby (2400m) horse, hopefully.

“He was awesome today. He did over-race a touch when the pace slackened, but he was off and gone once he got into the clear.

“We’ll probably head towards the Rosehill Guineas (2000m) now. It’s good prize-money, and it gives him a run the Sydney way around ahead of the Derby.”

Immediacy was bred by Cambridge Stud owners Brendan and Jo Lindsay and is the third stakes winner by Westbury Stud stallion Tarzino.

Young was quick to deflect the credit for the decision to buy Immediacy from the 2022 Ready to Run Sale.

“I was on my way to the airport to go to the Ready to Run Sale that year, and I told my son Ben to pick out a horse for me,” Young said. “He picked this one, and I had a look and saw he’s out of a Pivotal mare – my type of pedigree. We flew over and had a look at the horse and loved him. Now I keep telling Ben he’s a future bloodstock agent!”

Busuttin and Young were so taken with Immediacy that they returned to Karaka last month and bought his half-sister from Book 1 of Karaka 2024. The filly by Hello Youmzain was offered by Cambridge Stud and was sold for $280,000.
