Jessicabeel Highlights Zabeel Factor at Karaka in May
12 April 2010
Talented Zabeel mare, Jessicabeel continued John O'Shea's stellar run with Karaka graduates on Saturday winning the Group 2 AJC Chairman's Handicap (2600m) and shone the spotlight on opportunities to invest in her outstanding sire's progeny.
From almost last on entering the straight the four-year-old ran down No Wine No Song (Song of Tara) and fellow NZ-bred Harris Tweed (Montjeu x Sally by Prized) with the final margin two-lengths then a head.
The run proved an exciting prelude to the Group 1 AJC Sydney Cup at Randwick on 24 April with the $400,000 feature last year being won by Karaka graudate Ista Kareem (Germano).
Randwick-based trainer O'Shea purchased Jessicabeel (ex More Diamonds by Straight Strike) at the 2007 Karaka Premier Sale for $220,000 from Cambridge Stud.
Zabeel also sired Saturday's Listed WATC Melvista Stakes (2200m) winner Brother Mak (ex Enhancer by Red Tempo). Trained by Wally Mitchell, he was a $260,000 purchase from the 2008 Karaka Premier Sale and will head to the Group 1 WATC Derby on 24 April where he'll meet fellow Karaka graduate, and race favourite, Bridgestone (Pentire).
At the upcoming National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale from 3 - 5 May are six opportunities to invest in progeny of Cambridge Stud's elite sire.
Curraghmore Stud will offer a weanling by Zabeel at Lot 125. The brown filly is the second foal from the stakes-performed Danzero mare, Primera Dama and from the family of Group 1 NZ Derby winner Zonda (Zabeel).
Not only has Zabeel now overtaken his sire Sir Tristram's tally of stakes-winners but on closer inspection it's clear he is also forging an outstanding record as a broodmare sire with the likes of Darci Brahma, Samantha Miss, Faint Perfume and another Sydney Cup hopeful in Capecover all being from Zabeel mares. Five broodmares by Zabeel are entered in the Sale. Click here to view lots by Zabeel to be offered in May.
