Justa Tad Scoops One Thousand Guineas
11 November 2004
The duo who quinellaed the Indian Danehill Lowland Stakes last month were back in fine form at Canterbury this weekend when they repeated the finish in the $275,000 Group 1 New Zealand Bloodstock One Thousand Guineas.
The Rudy Liefting trained filly Justa Tad (Istidaad x Infinity) proved too strong for her rivals when taking out the third leg of the series and surged to the lead in the points table. The win in the Group 1 race added 12 points to 6 that she received in the Lowland.
La Sizeranne (Stravinsky x Tricia Ann) once again battled gamely for second and the 7 points she received secured her the second spot on the points table. Race favourite, Julinsky Princess ran home for third picking up 3.5 points.
Justa Tad's win is the first Group 1 win for Liefting as well as the filly's sire Istidaad who stands at Blue Gum Lodge in Cambridge. Liefting purchased the filly at the New Zealand Bloodstock 2002 National Weanling & Broodmare Sale for $1000 from Kings Ransom Lodge.
The points table following the third race is:
Horse | Points |
---|---|
Justa Tad | 18 |
La Sizeranne | 10 |
Eloa | 6 |
Julinsky Princess | 3.5 |
Clean Sweep | 3 |
Sista | 1.5 |
Sheka | 1.5 |
The next race in the series is the Soliloquy Stakes at Ellerslie on 27 November.
