KARAKA 2005: Festival Sale Summary

The final session of the Festival Sale brought the 79th National Yearlings Sales Series to a close at Karaka today, with outstanding success right throughout the Premier, Select and Festival sessions of the Sales Series.

The Festival Sale finished solidly with the average, median and sale aggregate all recording increases from last year.

The Festival Sale average has risen 9% from $10,484 to $11,415, and the median finished at $9,000, a 12.5% increase from $8,000 last year. The final Festival Sale aggregate is $3,401,750, a 10% increase on last year's aggregate, with only 8 more lots catalogued this year. The clearance rate steadily improved over the day and finished at a respectable 79%.

The four top lots of the Festival Sale came today, with the top Lot a�colt by Group 1 winning first season sire, Spectatorial, from Lady Carlotta (Westminster) sold for $45,000. The filly was purchased by JC & MA Morell from the draft of Hallmark Stud.

OVERALL 2005 NATIONAL YEARLING SALES SUMMARY

It has been a record-breaking week at Karaka, with results exceeding all expectations.

In total 1477 yearlings were catalogued for sale, with 1029 yearlings sold for an impressive aggregate of NZ$69,628,350. This is the second highest aggregate ever seen at Karaka, the highest being $70,809,351 for 1139 lots sold in 2000, which included a colt for $3.6m. Last year 1109 yearlings were sold for $60,631,650 showing an impressive 15% increase in total returns to vendors this year, and record returns for the number of lots sold.
