KARAKA 2005: Solid Start To Select Sale

With the buying frenzy of the Premier Sale now over, the first day of New Zealand Bloodstock's Select Sale saw the market settle into solid demand for good quality yearlings resulting in increases in the Select Sale average and median.

With one day of selling over and a full day still to go, the sale median is currently running at $30,000, a 15% increase on the final sale median last year of $26,000. The sale average is also 17.5% up on last year's final average, at $35,640. The aggregate is currently 6,237,000, a 14.5% increase on last year's aggregate ($5,447,000) after the same number of lots offered (256).

While a predominantly New Zealand buying bench, there is still some buying activity from international buyers, particularly from Australia. The top lot of the day was a colt by first season sire, Black Minnaloushe from the Straight Strike mare, Riposte, purchased by Richard O'Gorman Bloodstock for $140,000 from Haunui Farm.

Currently the leading buyer is Paul Moroney Bloodstock, with 8 yearlings purchased for $330,000.

Leading Premier Sale purchaser, Graeme Rogerson, added to his 27 Premier Sale purchases with 7 yearlings from the Select session, including a colt at Lot 699 by first season sire, Keeper, for $100,000.

The leading vendor by aggregate is currently Windsor Park Stud with 14 yearlings sold for $598,500.
