KARAKA 2006: More Good Sales Omens For New Zealand Sires

The warm reception given by buyers to progeny of New Zealand sires continued over the concluding sessions of the Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sales, auguring well for the fine selection of yearlings by these sires to be offered at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales, starting January 30.
Cambridge Stud based sire, Stravinsky (USA) continued to fare well following the A$475,000 purchase price of his first lot through the ring last week, the filly from Diamond Cashel (Sir Tristram), who was bought by Adrian Nicoll of BBA Ireland.
A total of 9 yearlings by Stravinsky were sold across the four major sessions, for an average of A$173,888.
At the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales Series a total of 36 yearlings by Stravinsky will be offered, including 26 in the Premier Sale, 9 in the Select Sale and 1 in the Festival Sale .
Fellow Cambridge Stud based sire, but with just his first crop of yearlings being offered, Viking Ruler (AUS) was also very well received. He had 4 yearling sold for an average of A$112,500 and selling for up to A$225,000 for a colt from Monroe Magic (Zabeel) which was purchased by DGR Thoroughbreds, NSW. The colt was a half brother to Gr 1 VRC Derby placed Headturner (NZ) (Anabaa).
At the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales Series 28 yearlings by Viking Ruler will be offered, including 18 in the Premier Sale, 8 in the Select Sale� and 2 in the Festival Sale.
Other first crop New Zealand based sires to make a positive impression included No Excuse Needed (GB) and Van Nistelrooy (USA).
One yearling by first crop sire No Excuse Needed was offered. He was a colt from Windsong ( Danasinga) offered on behalf of Waikato Stud, which stands No Excuse Needed and he fetched A$160,000, also going to the bid of DGR Thoroughbreds.
No Excuse Needed has 35 yearlings on offer at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales, including 16 in the Premier Sale, 15 in the Select Sale� and 4 in the Festival Sale.
Trelawney Stud based first crop sire, Van Nistelrooy, also made a positive impact with his first ever southern hemisphere yearling through the sales ring fetching A$135,000. He was a chestnut colt from Barija (Phone Trick), presented through the Cambridge Stud draft and purchased by NBE Enterprises of Queensland.
A total of 47 yearlings by Van Nistelrooy await buyers at the New Zealand National Sales, with 30 in the Premier Sale , 15 in the Select Sale and 2 in the Festival Sale .
Fellow first crop sire, Don Eduardo (NZ), had one yearling offered, a colt from Dame Clary (Clay Hero), which sold for A$55,000 to John Shannon of Victoria. Don Eduardo, who stands at Haunui Farm, is represented by 29 yearlings at Karaka, including 5 in the Premier Sale, 19 in the Select Sale and 5 in the Festival Sale.
Second crop sire, Black Minnaloushe (USA) also had one yearling through the ring, a filly from Kirov Dancer (Zabeel) which was sold for $130,000 to Tim Martin of NSW.
Windsor Park Stud based Black Minnaloushe has 39 yearlings to be sold at the New Zealand National Sales, including 19 in the Premier Sale, 19 in the Select Sale and 1 in the Festival Sale .
Another second crop New Zealand sire, Traditionally (USA), who stands at The Oaks Stud, met with a warm reception, with his 3 yearlings averaging A$132,000 and selling for up to A$170,000.
Traditionally has 35 yearlings to be offered at Karaka, including 11 in the Premier Sale ,22 in the Select Sale� and 2 in the Festival Sale .
Former fellow Windsor Park based sire, Montjeu (IRE) had one yearling offered and sold for A$150,000. This was a colt from Accent on Gold (USA) which was purchased by Andy Williams from South Africa.
There are 54 yearlings by Montjeu to be offered at the New Zealand National Sales, including 44 in the Premier Sale� and 10 in the Select Sale .
Two yearlings by Waikato Stud sire, Pins (AUS), were sold, a colt from Impassive Lady making A$70,000 to the bid of Danny O'Brien and a filly from Regal Heights making $160,000 to the bid of Magic Millions as agent.
A total of 42 yearlings by Pins will be offered at the New Zealand Sales, with 13 in the Premier Sale , 25 in the Select Sale�� and 4 in the Festival Sale .
Meanwhile, Cambridge Stud based super sire Zabeel (NZ), had 3 yearlings sold for an average of $A225,000 and a top of $A340,000.
A total of 24 yearlings by Zabeel will be offered to buyers at the Premier Sale at Karaka, starting January 30.
