Karaka 2011 Select and Festival Catalogues Now Online

Today New Zealand Bloodstock launches the Select and Festival catalogues which are now online.

This year's Karaka Select Sale features 626 entries, nine more than last year's sale, with the Karaka Festival Sale featuring 491 Lots, down on the 2010 offering of 519.

The Karaka Select Sale has had a strong year in terms of race track success with�nine graduates winning a total of 13 Group 1 races across Australasia and Hong Kong�including:

  • Able One: Group 1 Hong Kong Jockey Club Champions Mile.
  • Ekstreme: Group 1 Captain Cook Stakes.
  • Military Move: Group 1 New Zealand Derby.
  • Monaco Consul: Group 1 VRC Derby and the Group 1 Spring Championship Stakes.
  • Mufhasa: Group 1 Otaki Maori WFA Classic.
  • Tavistock: Group 1 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes and the Group 1 Waikato Draught Stakes.
  • Vosne Romanee: Group 1 Kelt Capital Stakes, Group 1 Zabeel Classic and the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes.
  • Vonusti: Group 1 Telegraph Handicap
  • Veloce Bella: Group 1 Whakanui International Stakes.

Beauty Flash was also impressive in winning the HK-1 Classic Hong Kong Mile.

Amongst the highlights in the Karaka 2011 Select Sale is the progeny from over 100 stallions including New Zealand sires Bachelor Duke (19), Captain Rio (11), Danroad (7) Darci Brahma (18), Elusive City (12), High Chaparral (2), Keeper (37), O'Reilly (13), Pentire (25), Perfectly Ready (34), Pins (16), Postponed (13), Savabeel (37), Thorn Park (18), Towkay (8) and Volksraad (22).

There is also an impressive line-up by Australian sires including Canny Lad (2), Casino Prince (1), Commands (1), Dehere (4), Elusive Quality (12), God's Own (3), Mossman (2), Nadeem (6), Oratorio (5), Rock of Gibraltar (1), Shamardal (2), Show a Heart (2), Snippetson (4), Snitzel (3), Stratum (1) and Tale of the Cat (4).

Amongst a host of star lots in the Karaka 2011 Select Sale are:

� Lot 918, a colt by New Zealand's Champion Sire Volksraad from Iman, the dam of Group 1 winner Imananabaa and Group 2 placed Ms Bowie.

� Lot 846, the colt by Iffraaj from the multiple Group 1 winning Tights mare Fayreform.

� Lot 727, the colt by Postponed from the Centaine mare Boito Belle, a half-sister to Group 2 winner Winning Belle and Group 1 placed Our Ella Belle.

� Lot 564, the colt by High Chaparral from Skimmer, the dam of the Group 3 placed Ladykin.

� Lot 1055, the colt by High Chaparral from Monteray, a half-sister to the dual Group 3 winner Durzetta.

� Lot 777, the filly by Perfectly Ready from Danelish, a half-sister to the Group 2 winner Memphis Blues and Palatious, the grand-dam of Group 1 winners Vengeance of Rain and Bizelle.

� Lot 794, the filly by Lucky Unicorn from the Danehill mare Diversia, a three-quarter sister to Flying Spur and the same family as Encosta de Lago.

� Lot 892, the colt by Dehere from Go With the Wind, a sister to the stakes winner Special Song and a half-sister to the Group 1 winner Bomber Hill and Group 3 winner Camargue.

There are a number of first season sires in the sale including Any Given Saturday, Any Suggestion, Casino Prince, Cecconi, Chinese Dragon, Court Command, Dylan Thomas, Excellent Art, Haradasun, Hard Spun, Henny Hughes, Husson, Iffraaj, Librettist, Magnus, Patapan, Red Clubs, Shaft, Shinzig, Soldiers Tale, Thano, Wonderful World and Zizou.

The Festival Sale has also tasted Group 1 success with graduate Nacho Man winning the Group 1 Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes. Other headline performers include C'est la Guerre who won the Group 3 Craven Plate at Randwick during the spring and Altered Image, the winner of the Group 2 Coupland's Bakery Mile. Altered Image also holds a nomination for the Group 1 Telegraph Handicap.

The catalogue offers progeny by over 95 stallions from across Australasia including Align (4), Brilliance (5), Castledale (8), Coats Choice (8), Don Eduardo (10), Dubai Destination (3), Falkirk (10), Golan (9), Handsome Ransom (15), Ishiguru (4), Kings Chapel (5), Lucky Unicorn (9), Reset (2), Scaredee Cat (5), Shinko King (11), Spartacus (15), and Saint Reims (10).

The Karaka Select Sale will run from 2 - 4 February with the Karaka Festival Sale on 6 & 7 February and the 2011 Karaka Premier Sale on 31 January & 1 February.
